Random misfire

Hi guys,
After some extensive searching on the problem I'm having, I can't seem to find a post with the same issues...
Recently purchased a 2007 exxy, was all running fine when bought, but soon developed a random misfire. Scanned for trouble codes, got p0301, engine misfire cylinder one. Pulled coil packs and plugs, swapped number 4 for number one on both plug and coil. Cleared code and all was sweet for about 5 mins then started misfiring again. Checked again and p0301 is back. Checked and cleaned coilpack earth wire, did wiggle test for the loom, nothing seems to work. Weird thing is, like I said its completely random, can be driving fine and then drops to 3 cylinders, then comes good again. All I seem to find when looking for the symptoms is cam and crank sensors going bad and causing dramas, vehicle has 320k on it, would this still be the issue for an 07 model? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for the long post also... 😒

Re: Random misfire

How do the spark plugs look ?
Is there pitting around the edge at the end instead of just the tip and earth electrode ?
Are you sure the spark plug is seated fully in the thread for cylinder #1 ?
Is there oil in the spark plug tube ?

Re: Random misfire

Pull your coil packs out, clean them and run some electrical tape around the tips of the coils and then put them back in. You could have a coil pack breaking down with the spark spreading out of the end or shaft of the coil instead of coming out the end in a stream like they are supposed to do
If that doesn't fix the miss you could have a headgasket on its way out.
