It's hard to tell what's normal and abnormal as this is my first x trail, especially it being 16 years old!! Myself and the shop owner took it out for a spin, where I highlighted the noise and vibration in the rev range. We took it back to the shop, where myself, the shop owner and head mechanic popped the hood, revved up and tried to locate the vibration/noise. There is an incredible rattle that was immediately pin pointed to the exhaust manifold/cat area, to which the head mechanic then suggested it was the cat, and that the ceramic had likely broken off, which is apparently a common failure. I don't doubt the competency of the mechanic, as he seemed incredibly knowledgeable, but agree that it's an expensive bit of kit to replace. I asked him if he thought the clutch felt bad when he drove it but he said it felt fine and confidently ruled it out as a potential issue nondisclosed_email@example.com (Harryparkes)Mon, 29 Nov 2021 08:22:50 +0000 Re: T30 cabin vibrationhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098985,from=rss#post2098985https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098985,from=rss#post2098985The exhaust manifold/catalytic converter comes as a single unit and will be expensive. I suggest you confirming with the mechanic his reasons for suggesting it as the problem, especially when you mention a vibration and no noise outside the cabin.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Wed, 24 Nov 2021 22:31:15 +0000 Re: T30 cabin vibrationhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098984,from=rss#post2098984https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098984,from=rss#post2098984Hi all An update for anyone with similar problems Been to mechanic up at Innisfail yesterday to have a look at the Xtrail He said the noise sounded like it was coming from the exhaust manifold/cat, and would need replacing. Told me it's best to do myself as only 6 bolts (plus heat shield) to save on labour costs. Will be ordering and replacing when in a more permanent location, probably back in Brisbane after Xmas. Thanksnondisclosed_email@example.com (Harryparkes)Wed, 24 Nov 2021 18:10:02 +0000 Re: T30 cabin vibrationhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098952,from=rss#post2098952https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098952,from=rss#post2098952No mention of clutch replacement, just all stamped throughout... Probably not... Had a total of 5 engine mounts changed, I'm not super clued up as to where trans mounts would be or if that is included in those 5, you probably have a better idea than me on that one. Clutch biting point does feel high, and wouldn't be surprised if that was the culprit. Will maybe take it to a clutch specialist in Cairns when we get there and see what they say, doesn't seem to be any Nissan specialists up there unless anyone can tell me otherwise Thanks nondisclosed_email@example.com (Harryparkes)Fri, 05 Nov 2021 08:33:35 +0000 Re: T30 cabin vibrationhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098950,from=rss#post2098950https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098950,from=rss#post2098950I've read (googled) reports on other forums where the vibrations you describe have been found to be from either a bad clutch or bad transmission mount. Since you have the full service history for the Xtrail, does it show the clutch ever being replaced ?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Wed, 03 Nov 2021 16:38:11 +0000 Re: T30 cabin vibrationhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098949,from=rss#post2098949https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098949,from=rss#post2098949Hi Kev Thanks for your assistance after my botched entry to the forum!! Yes, vibration is still there with vehicle in neutral clutch out and revved to 2500-3000rpm Thanks Harrynondisclosed_email@example.com (Harryparkes)Wed, 03 Nov 2021 15:15:00 +0000 Re: T30 cabin vibrationhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098948,from=rss#post2098948https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098948,from=rss#post2098948Hello Harry, If the vibrations are always in the same rpm range regardless of vehicle speed then it will definitely be something engine related rather than wheels or driveshafts and the fact you say the vibration also comes in around the same rpm when the clutch is in does seem to point to engine rather than transmission. Does it also happen when the transmission is in neutral with clutch out such as when parked with handbrake on ?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Mon, 01 Nov 2021 19:40:15 +0000 T30 cabin vibrationhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098945,from=rss#post2098945https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098945,from=rss#post2098945Hi all, Having problems with my '05 t30 200,000km manual. Basically, having major vibration/reverberation noise in the cabin, felt through the floor, front seats, small amounts through the steering wheel, but only noticable between 2500-3000rpm. It's felt through all gears, whatever speed, just within that rev range, but it's really making our driving experience miserable, and forces us to 100kmph and below, as the noise is unbearable the closer you get to 3000rpm. No excess noise outside of vehicle to indicate hole in exhaust. Vibration dissapears when clutch is engaged, but is there if you rev it to the mentioned range with clutch in. We've had all engine mounts changed and rear muffler as the mechanic suspected this to be the issue, which did improve it slightly, but it's nowhere near right. We're unfortunately on the road now and unable to take it back to that mechanic. Seen a few people mention DMF with similar symptoms but nothing that exactly matches what were experiencing, and obviously don't want to shell out for new clutch and flywheel and the issue to still be there. We're Pommy backpackers (groan!) And would rather keep the car and fix the issue, as better the devil you know, and currently have a great camping setup with solar panel and dual battery. Car also has full service history all the way from new. Thanks! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Harryparkes)Mon, 01 Nov 2021 12:03:01 +0000
