First time x-trail owner
Hello all
So I just bought my first X-trail T30 ST-S 40th anniversary (2006) in manual. Initially bought as a cheap temporary second car to assist with home reno (e.g. trips to the tip and suppliers with a trailer).
Since doing research on the X-trail, through this forum and other resources, I am interested in turning it into a reliable daily driver and perhaps adding some mods for some light off-roading.
I am based in Canberra and purchased the car from a local dealer. It's got 235k on the clock, drives well and is in pretty good cosmetic condition for a 15-year-old car.
As with every used car I buy, I like to do a full service regardless of its service history and as this is my first Nissan, I would appreciate your expert input. If this has already been covered in another post, please guide me.
I am no mechanic but do have some DIY experience working on my previous (cheap used) cars - mainly French and German cars. My last car was my first Japanese, a 2006 Honda Accord Euro that I enjoyed working on.
As far as service goes, this is my plan:
- Engine oil & oil filter replacement
- Air filter
- Cabin filter
- Power steering oil replacement
- Coolant flush and replacement
- Brake fluid replacement
- Manual transmission oil replacement
- Transfer case oil
- Diff oil
- Valve cover gasket (noticed leaking during inspection)
- Spark plugs
Have I missed anything? Are there other recommendations?
Also, would you recommend I use Nissan genuine fluids/filters/parts? I was planning on buying a couple of Mann/Ryco filters online but will call Nissan dealers to check pricing first. From your experience, is there a big price difference between genuine and OEM? For my euro cars, I used to get OEM parts online but with the Honda, the price difference was so minimal that I would just drop into my local Honda dealer to buy parts.
Is there a website for Nissan parts?
My Xtrail is being delivered tomorrow and I'll bring it to a mate's workshop, put it on the lift and do a full inspection. Hopefully not much else to do.
Also, anyone here who knows where I could do some beginner level off-roading in or around Canberra?
