Hi Peter,
Are you sure it is 2nd and 4th gear or might it be 1st and 4th which do not work ?
Does your mechanic have an OBD2 code reader to see if there are any fault codes to diagnose the problem ?

That is a treatment additive so hopefully he added it to normal transmission oil and not just by itself so we need to know the transmission oil he used with it.

Sounds like your mechanic will have to attach a diagnostic terminal to the vehicle to see what faults the transmission control unit is reporting

What diagnostic tool did he use ?
A Nissan Consult should show error codes current as well as previously stored if there is a malfunction. Any other type of diagnostic tool might only show engine fault codes and not transmission fault codes.
He should try using the diagnostic tool to manually select the gears you say are not working and the tool should show if it is working or not.
