converting 2wd to 4wd

hey eveyrone,
i currently own a 2012 t31 manual 2wd xtrail, and im considering converting it to 4wd myself.
i was just wondering what the required parts/associated cost would be, and if anyone has done this before, what advice could you give?
i couldnt find anything about converting x-trails to 4wd, but from what i could find on american forums (mainly the nissan titan and nissan xterra forums) the consensus is that it is easier and cheaper (in most cases) to just buy a 4wd instead of upgrading your current vehicle.
thoughts?

thanks in advance

Re: converting 2wd to 4wd

Converting from 2WD to 4WD will be a very extensive exercise.

Parts needed will be ATLEAST ...
- rear drive pinion assembly on transmission
- rear driveshaft from transmission pinion to rear diff
- rear diff with electric 4WD clutch
- rear driveshafts to wheel hubs
- dash selector switch

Other possible parts could be ...
- 4WD controller (if not already part of the ABS module)
- rear wheel hubs (as I expect the current rear hubs in 2WD model may not have the driveshaft splines)
- complete transmission (if adding the rear pinion assembly cannot be done)

Cost ???
Obviously cheaper if parts are sourced from wreckers rather than Nissan spares.

My recommendation is to find a good used 4WD version and exchange for your 2WD.
