The post in particular you require is #74 where he details the part number for a GKN replacement. Nissan and the Dealers just can't supply you with replacement universal joints. They only sell the prop shaft as a whole. I bought two universal joints and will attempt to replace them on my own. Will post here if they fit.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nordic X)Fri, 23 Apr 2021 18:48:29 +0000 Re: Universal Joint Measurementshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098442,from=rss#post2098442https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098442,from=rss#post2098442I was told that the tailshaft uni joint on the T31 wasn't replaceable on it's own, and the whole tailshaft needed to be replaced. Ended up picking up a secondhand one for a lot less than new.nondisclosed_email@example.com (aus dan)Wed, 21 Apr 2021 09:39:57 +0000 Re: Universal Joint Measurementshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098435,from=rss#post2098435https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098435,from=rss#post2098435Thanks for the advice Kev! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nordic X)Mon, 19 Apr 2021 23:34:50 +0000 Re: Universal Joint Measurementshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098433,from=rss#post2098433https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098433,from=rss#post2098433I removed my tailshaft when I had to get the transfer pinion bearing replaced. Easy to do. Just had 4 bolts at each end to unbolt the couplings. The pinions in both the transfer case and the rear differential should stay inplace while you drive. I know the front will but just check the rear won't pull out by hand before you move after you've removed the tailshaft. When you drop the tailshaft just be careful of the centre bearing that you will also have to unbolt from the underside of the chassis and remove the whole tailshaft as a single unit.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Mon, 19 Apr 2021 17:44:47 +0000 Re: Universal Joint Measurementshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098432,from=rss#post2098432https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098432,from=rss#post2098432Thanks Kev, Nissan only sells the whole prop shaft so no parts number for the u joints are available The u-joints they sell for the T30 seems to be smaller, have thos half rings and look like this: T30 U Joints Is this what you meant? Is it possible to drive my 4x4 Xtrail without the prop shaft? If so, then i could remove the prop shaft and meassure the joint before ordering two new ones. When I look at videos on how to remove the prop shaft, they all say to be ready to catch some transmission oil that might drip out. So I wonder if it's ok to drive it without the shaft?? I certainly don't want to loose any transmission oil while driving!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nordic X)Mon, 19 Apr 2021 17:36:43 +0000 Re: Universal Joint Measurementshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098431,from=rss#post2098431https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098431,from=rss#post2098431Not sure if the T31 is the same as my T30 but in it the universal joints are not held in by clips but rather pinch points stamped into the sides of the housing. These would have to be filed off so the joint can be replaced. I'm not sure if Nissan consider them a separate replaceable part but you can call a dealer spare parts to make sure. The correct universal joint will be one which measures the same across the flats of the endcaps, has the same endcap diameter and is the same thickness through the body. You can google search how to measure them correctly.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Mon, 19 Apr 2021 09:19:34 +0000 Universal Joint Measurementshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098430,from=rss#post2098430https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098430,from=rss#post2098430Hi Guys I need to replace both prop shaft universal joints and struggle to find the right size. Does anyone know the proper measurements of the original universal joints? Is the size of the front and rear universal joint the same or are they different? Thanks for the help!
