My exy is still going strong but needs a bit of body work after being hit while parked but the other's insurance will fix it all up. Needs another rear bumper and a dent pulled out of the metal side panel but otherwise the exy is running fine. I like reading posts where problems have been sorted out by others. I learn from that. Last week my Airbag warning light wouldn't go out and started flashing. It was like that all day so I checked this forum and found the "reset"solution posted by Jalal back in 2014. The reset worked perfectly the first time. cheers Davidnondisclosed_email@example.com (dlpeek)Sun, 11 Sep 2022 09:27:02 +0000 Re: T31 Petrol engine issueshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2099541,from=rss#post2099541https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2099541,from=rss#post2099541My Xtrails engine started misfiring all of a sudden recently, with a huge loss of power and the MIL was flashing. When I checked the codes, it had P0300 and P0301 on the reader. I cleared the codes and swapped number 1 and 2 coil packs around and then started the engine and code P0302 came up. That meant cylinder number 1 coil pack had failed, which was now on cylinder number 2. Rather than wait and have them fail one by one, possibly out in the middle of nowhere (like my fuel pump did at 100,000k's) and seeing the car has travelled 225,000k's, I renewed all 4 coil packs. I also renewed the sparkplugs as they were due to be changed anyway, even though they looked perfect upon removal. I cleared the codes and started the engine and took it for a drive and honestly, its running like a brand new engine. The gearbox is no longer high revving going up hills, trying to work out where it should be. The revs are much lower going uphill and the gearbox is so much more precise, and I can really feel the increase in power. Also the fuel consumption has improved going from 11.5 L down to 10.5 L/100k. I'll keep one of the good coil packs that I changed in the rear tray as a spare. I'll also check the earth points in that area as Kev mentioned to eliminate that as a cause of the failure. Not sure if different brand coils make a difference, but the ones I purchased are "Goss" P/N C589.nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Fri, 09 Sep 2022 19:15:49 +0000 Re: T31 Petrol engine issueshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098426,from=rss#post2098426https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098426,from=rss#post2098426One reason for coil packs blowing can be from a bad earth so check all your earthing points to make sure they are clean and secure with no corrosion under the lug to the base metal.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Wed, 14 Apr 2021 11:55:38 +0000 Re: T31 Petrol engine issueshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098425,from=rss#post2098425https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098425,from=rss#post2098425Well, turns out I was a little premature in my celebration, the issue came back again 70km later. I checked the OBD2 readout and got miss-fire on 3 of the 4 cylinders, all but the one I replaced the coil pack on. I refused to believe that all 4 would die simulatenously and didn't want to be another $750 on it, so sent it off to the mechanic. By this time I was thinking fuel system problem which I wasn't kitted out to diagnose or repair anyway. Turns out it actually was the remaining 3 coil packs. There's visible burn marks on each where it's burnt through the plastic end (just behind the rubber tip) and shorted out to the cylinder head. The most likely reason I got it going for another 70km is that I had cleaned all the tips with IPA, removing any carburisation through the burnt path & reducing its conductivity. Just enough to get it going again for a bit. At least the problem is solved now. 2 tanks of premium later and it's still going fine. Now all I have to deal with is the ruined rear end from getting rear ended 3 days later. Wrecked door, surrounding panels and latch from a ding in the frame behind the door too. It seems I just can't win at the moment.nondisclosed_email@example.com (jim junkie)Wed, 14 Apr 2021 11:02:51 +0000 Re: T31 Petrol engine issueshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098407,from=rss#post2098407https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098407,from=rss#post2098407Glad to hear you sorted it!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nickelass)Mon, 29 Mar 2021 18:56:38 +0000 Re: T31 Petrol engine issueshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098404,from=rss#post2098404https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098404,from=rss#post2098404Well, for future reference, this one is now resolved. I'd run it for 10-15min last night after putting a bottle of injector cleaner through, as by that point I was fresh out of ideas and figured what the hell. There was no improvement then, so I slept on it. Cleaned off the MAF sensor this morning and all the spark plug coils connections and gave it a whirl. After a few sputters initially, it caught and went fairly well for a bit. I let it warm up and gave it a few checks under load, with one or 2 going very stuttery but eventually the whole lot consistently worked. I've since topped it up with some premium & put a bottle of fuel system cleaner in for good measure and taken it for a 40km run down the freeway with no issues. Fuel economy is back where it should be at aroun 7.1L/100km on the freeway (no AC). So I'll count that as a win. Given the behaviour, i'd still think the root cause was electrical, most likely the coil pack given the behaviour after replacing that. It was probably a case of running it rough for a while that didn't do the injectors any favours, so needed a bit of a clean afterwards. Anyway, it's running again, so I count that as a success nondisclosed_email@example.com (jim junkie)Sun, 28 Mar 2021 12:53:17 +0000 T31 Petrol engine issueshttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098403,from=rss#post2098403https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2098403,from=rss#post2098403Hi all, First time poster here, but of bit of a lurker for a while now & get the impression you are the right people to ask about this issue I've been having. My 2009 T31 Petrol (QR25DE, 180,000) suddenly lost power mid-drive the other day, misfiring badly but able to limp home. On the limp home, the behaviour was generally a rough idle with misfires and pretty gutless under load. Occassionally, the issue would resolve for 1-2 seconds and full power would return. Becuase of the fast on / off nature of the issue, I suspected electrical, possibly a coil pack. Plugging in the OBD2 I got a P0300 and P0302, so I started there. I pulled the coil packs on each 1 by 1 to see if it affected anything, but nothing. Move the #2 pack to #1, and no change. Plugs are also pretty new too (20,000km), and I did try switching out #2 to no effect. I thought it may be crank angle / camshaft angle sensors & the P302 a bit of a red herring, as it didn't return with a clear of codes, just P0300. So I went and replaced the camshaft & crankshaft sensors. No change. P0301 returns, so I suspect I've just misdiagnosed the coil packs. Replace coil pack on #1. BAM, problem solved. It runs like a dream, for about 5min. I get halfway around the block with full power & not a miss, then the problem comes back with a vengance. It runs pretty well under no load, i.e. you can get it up to 3-4k RPM no problem, idle is still pretty rough though. As soon as you apply any load it's totally gutless. I'm thinking it all points to a fuel issue? Low fuel pressure or blocked filter? Wouldn't this throw an error code though? I'll clean off the MAF today & give the wiring a once over, but there was nothing suspicious there yesterday and I'm at a bit of a loss for this one.
