posticon TAAILGATE LOCKING 'JAW' NOT RELEASING

Hello All - thanks for allowing me this post. The tailgate of my 2007 XTrail (T30?) will 'click' on opening and will allow the tailgate to be moved slightly from the 'seating' but then can't be budged. It will allow travel there and back across that 1cm or so but no further. Its as though the 'jaws' of the catch won't disengage.

Any advice would be (very) gratefully accepted.

Cheers

Re: TAAILGATE LOCKING 'JAW' NOT RELEASING

Does the tailgate feel free to move the short distance or does it rub on something ?

First thoughts is that the bottom of the tailgate could be rubbing on the catch bolts or floor of the rear compartment. It could be possible that the catch is loose and is hitting the lock cutout in the tailgate.

Is there enough movement to let you give it a sharp tug to open ?

Thanks Kev, the tailgate is free to move the short distance. Its not rubbing on anything and, unfortunately, doesn't have enough movement to allow a sharp tug to open it.

Cheers

Re: TAAILGATE LOCKING 'JAW' NOT RELEASING

Have you tried locking and unlocking the tailgate while you have it open and pulling it open ?
Maybe that might free the catch ?
You could also try flexing the rear a little by running the left rear tire up onto a brick or ramp and see if that frees the tailgate and then doing the same with the right rear tire.

Thanks Kev,

I've tried locking and unlocking while I have it open (or the catch depressed anyway) but I'll give the flexing a try.

G'Day Kev,

A damn good try but no success. I'll try detaching the locking mechanism from the tailgate so I can deal with it closely and let you know the outcomes.

Thanks for all your advice and help to date.

Cheers
