Weird shuddering comes and goes T30

Hi all just signed up looking for help. I get this fairly violent shudder in the front somewhere. If I knock it out of gear it coasts along quite happily. If I ride the clutch a little it can do 80kph and not shudder too badly. If I stop the car it stops doing it. It was happening about once a fortnight, but has happened twice in three days. Took it to a mechanic but if course it wouldn't play up for him. It sort of feels like something is locking up. I would be very grateful for your thoughts. Cheers.

It could be a number of things.
Easiest one to check first is wheel alignment. Can you see any abnormal wear on the front tyres ?
It might also be a worn CV joint in one of the front driveshafts. Are any of the rubber covers split or is there grease splatter underneath ?

Hi Kev thank you very much for your help. I'm pretty sure it's not wheel alignment, it can happen at any speed and then goes away completely for a couple of weeks. The CV boots look fine. Thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated. Cheers
