Overnight Battery Drain

A recent development has been a loss of power from the battery when left over one or two days. No evidence of items switched on, so a check was undertaken by removing each fuse (internal fuse box) checking current flow with a meter. No flow detected.

Does anyone know the cause why this is happening? Help desperately needed please. emoticon

Re: Overnight Battery Drain

How old is the battery ?
After they get old they usually will not hold a charge for long periods of time and self discharge.
Take it to an auto electrician and have them do a battery capacity check to see if it is OK.

Re: Overnight Battery Drain

The last battery died quite suddenly and did not realise that there was a problem. The current battery is new and has been checked. The battery itself has no problems. There is 'something' electrical that is draining the battery and have no idea where to look.

Re: Overnight Battery Drain

It might be a bad diode in your alternator.
A bad diode will let AC into your battery and kill it very quickly.
An auto electrician should be able to diagnose that for you.

Re: Overnight Battery Drain

Apologies for the delay, I took the vehicle to an auto-electrician and he found a wire directly connected to the battery (don't know what it is used for) and disconnected it. Strange though, as I have had the car just over a year and all was going well until one day the battery died and would not take a charge. Purchased a new battery and it was also consistently 'dying'. However, it now has cured the problem. Strange though.

Re: Overnight Battery Drain

Did the electrician chase the wire to see what it was connected to ?
If not then I would just out of curiosity.
