I checked for intake and exhaust leaks while engine was running with soapy water and when off with the vacuum cleaner to supply pressure (stihl se61) only found a miniscule leak on exhaust manifold gasket, it’s not oily, bone dry. Plugs are IR units and about 15k old still looks great. With the scanner timing is 15Deg btc @750 when hot. HO2S1 (b1) is operating between .01-.0.89 and HO2S2 (B1) is 0.28-0.78 @2000rpm no load. But every now and then the HO2s2 will stays stable between 0.4- -0.6 for 2-3 mins, other times other times it drops down and stays at 0.2 volts for 30seconds. (It’s a new BOSCH unit). The HO2S1 AND HO2S2 MNTR PID DATA TABS SHOW "LEAN" ALL THE TIME but I can’t find out atm what that means. There is no code for the MAF but I cleaned it anyway. Also cleaned the PCV and reduced the oil level, it was about 5 mm high. It’s still running fine. Probably not game enough to do a propane test on the CAT. So it’s time to find someone that can diagnose it correctly and not a shop that just changes parts because I can do that bit. Any input welcome. nondisclosed_email@example.com (grumblesaw44)Sun, 13 Mar 2022 11:28:42 +0000 Re: Code P0420 Catalytic Converter Replacementhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2099149,from=rss#post2099149https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2099149,from=rss#post2099149as i have the same code come up, im doing a bit of research instead of being just a parts fitter. i've asked a few shops on the subject. At one we scanned we found the #2 sensor was changing voltage so i replaced it and cleared the code, but it came back later on. Still the same code. I have the Copy of the Nissan T30 workshop CD and only today found a reference to the code. So it has few things to check out now. Has anyone used the TOAD pc SCAN software on their T30. They say it works on 1/2006 onwards. Mine is 8/2006. but Toad said it wouldn't work but the Neighbor has it, plugged it in quickly and it works but he isnt used to using it. So not sure if all features work. Would like any feed back. Whenever I go to Bunnings at Crossroads I pop into Costco to fill up with fuel. Costco used to sell 91 Octane but have since replaced it with E10. I have never experienced any trouble with E10 (fingers crossed). However, when I usually fill up, other than at Costco, I use 91 as it is usually only 2 - 3 cents dearer than the E10. I definitely save more than the $60 Costco membership yearly fee in fuel costs during a year by using Costco plus general Costco savings on other Costco products when we shop there every now and then. So, E10 being 94 Octane is supposedly making the engine a bit zippier BUT it burns quicker so supposedly less economy. To tell the truth I have not noticed any difference in economy between E10 and 91 while driving in suburbia etc. When my wife and I travel I don't use E10 but either 91 or 95. I do find that 95 tends to get me more Ks per tank full on a long trip with regular use of cruise control. But around the burbs it's usually 91..... or E10 if I happen to be near Costco. cheersnondisclosed_email@example.com (dlpeek)Wed, 28 Aug 2019 16:33:26 +0000 Re: Code P0420 Catalytic Converter Replacementhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2096960,from=rss#post2096960https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2096960,from=rss#post2096960Hi Dave,  The first time the engine light came on was at 138,000 K's nearly 2 years ago, but that was infrequently. I'm now on 176,000 K's, and the light was coming on after an hour of driving. I was told that E10 fuel (very rarely do I use it) can cause this problem even if the engine is designed to run on this fuel. Here's hoping you have a lot of K's left in yours. Edit.... 187,000 K's and the engine light hasn't come on. As I have the same model and year as yours I guess I may have that same issue in the future so I will know who to go to when/if the time comes. How many Ks you done now Eric? I am only up to 142,000Ks on the clock. The temp of the exhaust at the inlet of the converter was twice as hot as the outlet, so the problem was there. The engine idle was also starting to hunt. In gear, with the A/C on and foot on the brakes, the engine was almost at the point of stalling. I tried the Lacquer Thinners solution as seen on youtube, but that didn't work. So I tried the Oxygen Sensor Spacer also from youtube, but that brought up another code, P0139, which is the "Sensor Circuit Slow Response" even more frequently than the P0420 code, so I removed it. I bought 2 new Oxygen Sensors and installed them, but the P0420 code was still illuminating the orange engine light on the dash. I called Hitech Exhaust at Darlinghurst and spoke to Lambros, and he booked my car in to have the Catalytic Converter replaced the next day. I dropped it off to him at 7am and once it cooled they started working on it. They replaced the original Converter with a Stainless Steel one, and their price was the best price I could get anywhere. Some places around my area were charging twice as much. It was a good experience from booking it in, right through to picking it up, and the workmanship is great. I highly recommend them. The P0420 code and the orange engine light have not come back since. Also, the engine idle rpm is now perfect again, so all in all it was a great result. nondisclosed_email@example.com (TopGun65)Tue, 27 Aug 2019 18:33:09 +0000
