John is right. 4 = burn needed and 3 = burn in progress.

I watched mine the other day and consistently switched from 1 to 4 when my soot hits 38 (I'm not sure why everyone seems to have different soot triggers, maybe the calculations are getting a bit messed)

Once on 4 it didn't start a burn right away (even though I was traveling above 80kmh and the engine was hot) so I assume there is a time thing where all the conditions need to be meet for a particular time before the burn kicks off.

I have been watching the pids and messing about with DPF resets etc for a couple of years now and i'm convinced that there is something going on with Nissan ECMs and dpf soot estimation. I wouldn't surprise me if this is why so many people have problems after a few years rather than blocked DPFs.

The consult III doesn't even seem to display the soot mass PID only the dpf pressure diff which is almost next to useless to give you any real information. The soot mass PID is obviously there and i believe is available from consult III+ so not sure why it has to be so hidden for basic scanners. Bl**dy Nissan emoticon_

From what I've read on other forums and posts for other Renault engines, mode 4 is a passive regeneration. Basically there so much soot that driving it like you stole it will remove some of the soot, this is why the soot goes up and down a bunch in mode 4 and can sometimes passively regenerate enough that it flicks back to mode 1.

I'm having an issue currently where my DPF cycles, soot hits zero and stays there a while but when it finishes the cycle it's back to 20g. Not sure if it's a bad couple cycles or indicative of a deeper issue. I'm keeping a close eye on the next few cycles.

Will be interesting to see as i presume unless it gets down to mode 1 then it is probably classed as a failed regen and the failed regen count will be incremented. I think it's this that eventually turns the dpf light on and then the mil light.

@Johnnt it was always getting below 22g on the seemingly failed cycles so it would go back to mode 1, it just wouldn't be long until it as back to mode 4.
Since my last post I've had a few successful cycles, one to 0 and one to 4g so it seems everything is working okay and those weird cycles aren't too much of a concern just yet.

Recently I've started using a diesel additive that's supposed to affect the cetane rating of the fuel and as such it supposedly helps the DPF with burn off and a bunch of other things. I'm not sure if the claims are backed with proof but it wasn't that expensive and worth a try.

Hello,
I have a 2010 T31 manual diesel and I'm trying to setup Torque Pro to see what the DPF is or isn't doing.
I created an additional PID entry then exported it to csv, updated the csv to reflect the values earlier in this thread and then imported those (to save typing them all manually in the app).
The additional PIDs are there but when I graph them and run a scan the results aren't very useful.

The ODBII wifi ELM327 Adapter I have is able to communicate to read and clear codes. Are some PIDs available depending on what adapter is used? (none of the other DPF related codes in the app sow any data either)

Main goal is to find an inexpensive way for forcing a regen and getting more information to convince me if the DPF is at fault or what the problem is. I am considering getting a better scan tool that already has the force DPF regen functions on it.
What other information can I provide here to help get an answer to TorquePro setup?

Not sure if you can force a forced regen with consumer scan tools. I think you need the nissan software.
Also consider that a forced regen is something else than the regular regen. You have to change the oil after the forced regen.

Knowing how to reliably trigger a regular regen would be very interesting. I use a cheap ELM adapter and the PIIDs. I never chart though.
