QR25DE dipstick markings

Hi everybody,

My April build, 2010 T31 petrol X-Trail, has now covered 207000 kilometres.
I bought the car new and have had it serviced at between 5000 to 10000 kilometre intervals depending on how and where the car is driven. The oil filter is changed every time.
The car has run so well, that I have taken it for granted over the years. Consequently, I have not checked the oil level as much as I should have.
But, as the car has done 207000 km, I thought that I had better start monitoring the engine oil. At those kilometres, there might be some engine wear and, therefore, an increase in oil consumption.

In the old pre-metric days, and the era of 1950's and 1960's cars, it was said that if an engine could do 1000 miles to one pint of oil (equivalent to 2833 km for 1 litre), then the engine was in good shape. Perhaps today's engines with their better materials (along with better lubricants) wear less that the engines of old, so I don't know if that old axiom is true today.

So, my question is this:
If the dipstick shows that the oil level in my sump is on the "L" mark, how many litres of oil needs to be added to the engine to bring the level up to the "H" mark?

Thank you.

Re: QR25DE dipstick markings

Don't think that is actually stated as a measured quantity, just "adjust oil level if not between L and H"in the manual.

I just add 0.5 lt and recheck the next morning, adding more if needed, proportional to the remaining level on the dipstick.

Re: QR25DE dipstick markings

Hi Kev,

Thank you for the response, and I apologise for the delay.

I think I'll find out the quantity the hard way.
At the moment, the level is a little over the "H" mark.
I'll drain a little at a time until the oil level is bang on the the "H". Then, in another container, I will continue draining the oil until the level is on the "L" and measure the quantity that has been drained.

Kindest regards,
Rogan

Re: QR25DE dipstick markings

Hello everybody,

For those of you out there who are curious, the amount of oil required to top the oil up from the "L" mark to the "H" mark on a QR25DE X-Trail engine is 2 litres.
However, I'm not sure if the "L" and "H" marks have remained the same distance apart on all QR25DE dipsticks over the years, but on my engine (car built 4/2011), the marks are 40mm apart.

I wish you all the best of everything.

Re: QR25DE dipstick markings

Hello everybody,

My comments on March 1st regarding the QR25 engine dipstick markings are incorrect.
The measurements are wrong.
Please disregard my comments if you haven't already done so.
I apologise if I have misled and confused members and browsers.
