Need help diagnosing CV issue

Hi guys (and girls),

I need some help diagnosing an issue on my 2010 T31 TL Xtrail. I bought it back in 2010 and shortly after purchasing I removed the 18" wheels and replaced them with 235/70/R16 All Terrains which gave me approximately 20mm more clearance over standard due to the larger diameter. All was well and early last year I had Pedders put in there aftermarket Coils and replaced the shocks while I was going. Again all was well until a few months later we set off from Brissy down to NSW towing a 14' pop top and after 300km the car developed a severe shudder in the front left around 70km/hr all the way through to 100km/hr. The shudder was significantly worse while cornering to the right. I had the mechanics in NSW take a look and they advised me that while they could not replicate the shudder they recommended replacing both front CV joints and axles.

All was well again for a couple of months until i had the car serviced again and the mechanics (back in QLD) advised me that the front inner left CV boot was split. As it was only a few months old (after some back and forth with the supplier) they agreed to replace it under warranty. This was done back in December and now only this week I had new tyres put on the car and the tyre place advised me that the front left inner CV boot was half missing. I took it back to my mechanic and they agreed to replace it again.

Whilst happy that the boot has now been replaced twice without cost to me, I am beginning to wonder there is some greater issue at play.

Has anyone needed to replace CV joints after 120,000km?
Has anyone had any CV joint issues after a Pedders lift?
Is anyone else running larger tyres with the Pedders lift?
Has anyone else had any issues with CV joints while towing?

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to give a detailed background so someone on here might have experienced the same thing.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Need help diagnosing CV issue

Firstly, are the replacement CV shafts genuine Nissan and do they have genuine Nissan boots or are they aftermarket "universal" boots?

Aftermarket universal boots are too big and rub excessively in the folds causing premature wear and splitting. The genuine Nissan boots are smaller and open out the corregations more to minimise this wear. I had 2 sets of universal boots break on my T30 within 12 months and since replacing the CV shafts with genuine Nissan and genuine Nissan boots have not had an issue with them within 4 years
