You might be able to do it by yourself, but its much easier with two people. Lift the car up and support with wheels off the ground about 4-5cm. Get a good solid bar and using it as a lever under the tyre, try to lift the tyre up and let it down over and over. Look for movement at the ball joint where the macpherson suspension strut connects to the control arm. Do BOTH sides. Just because it's lurching left, doesnt mean it's not the right wheel pushing it. I was also considering a grabbing brake caliper, and it's not 'lurching' back right again, it's just 'letting go' which could give the impression of 'lurching right' but in fact it's just correcting back to normal castor. Actually, now I think of that, lower control arm bushes too....that could do this if they have movement in them. I think we're looking for something that is changing the alignment, either toe or castor. So the components that affect that are the first to check. Tie rods, wheel bearings, ball joints, control arms. But with no sideways movement of the tyre, tie rods & bearings are out. Just throwing another out there...drive shaft/CV binding...Any noise? nondisclosed_email@example.com (Wiz Au)Fri, 31 Aug 2018 11:00:34 +0000 Re: T30 will suddenly lurch to the righthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2096071,from=rss#post2096071https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2096071,from=rss#post2096071Hi Kev, No vibration at all. Wheel alignment has had a check but I am going to get it checked again. Tire wear is perfect - no scrubbing of inside or outside edges. Have you had the wheel alignment checked ?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Wed, 22 Aug 2018 14:53:25 +0000 T30 will suddenly lurch to the righthttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2096068,from=rss#post2096068https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2096068,from=rss#post2096068Hi everyone, My lady's T30 Xtrail (2004) wil suddenly lurch to the right on a flat straight road from time to time. It will then lurch left again shortly after. I know about Torque Steer - and yes it does do that but this is without changing speed. I've tried to see if there is play on either front wheel and can't find any no matter how much I throw my 100Kg around whilst holding onto the wheel. Has anyone any idea what it can be ?
