I think Photobucket are finally getting the message from all its users.
They have just released a new pricing deal of US$1.99/mth or US$19.99/yr which includes 10GB of storage, 3rd-party hosting and no ads.

For those who have lots of pics and don't want the hassle of going through moving them all over to Flickr then this seems a decent cheap enough solution.

Thanks for the heads-up Kev.

Lucky I didn't delete my accounts including the xtrailadmin account, so I have now subscribed to the yearly fee and hopefully that will re-enable all of the dead pics that I shared using the admin account.

Here is a test:

Latest news is that Flickr have been acquired by SmugMug.

No change to how the free account features work as detailed in this Cnet article

Good article, thanks Kev.
I imagine they've learned not to repeat the photobucket saga.

Re: PhotoBucket became a paid Photos Hosting Service

Latest notification from Photobucket is that they are from June 1st limiting bandwidth of free accounts to only 25MB. If your bandwidth is over this, they will watermark and blur any pictures hosted.

My notification stated I was at 500MB/mth. Given most of my pictures would be medium resolution around 250KB then that means there are 2000 hits on my pictures each month emoticon Didn't know so many people were viewing my pics on here emoticon

The free account now only allows upto 250 pictures and to upgrade to the minimum account which allows picture hosting is $54/yr (2,500 pictures) so I guess I'll have to go through all the pics on Photobucket to see what is there and gradually move or add them to Flickr and updating the links on the forum before finally deleting my old "archived" Photobucket account.

Re: PhotoBucket became a paid Photos Hosting Service

Well Kev I guess with your amazing 5352 postings on this forum there must be heaps and heaps of pics that entertain and/or educate other forum users, including me.
There are many forum members and perhaps many many more forum "lookers" that obviously view your pics.
So you should feel very pleased with your forum contributions, especially since you are keen enough to subscribe to a paid photobucket account to enable you to share your pics. It's a shame that Photobucket will now restrict your bandwidth. Updating the links on the forum of your pics to Flickr is a commendable task and I hope that all on the forum appreciate your efforts to achieve this.

cheers
