PhotoBucket became a paid Photos Hosting Service

Hi Guys,

As you would have already noticed, some photos and icons on our forum have stopped working and are displaying a PhotoBucket error message asking us to upgrade the PhotoBucket account to a paid service.

The change in PhotoBucket terms and conditions is pretty recent and they're now forcing all forums and website who host and share the hosted photos to upgrade to paid service costing US$399.99 a year to enable linking and sharing on forums and websites.

I think the cost is pretty high for such a service, so I am now looking for another free image host website but that task will be huge to change over the thousands of shared photos from PhotoBucket to another provider.

I am now only fixing the main forum icons and smilies and re-hosting them on the forum server, but most of the images in the DIY Guides section and others have stopped working already.

If you do know of an alternative hosting provider that offers free image linking and sharing, please do let us know.

For the time being, I ask you all to stop using PhotoBucket, as you won't be able to share your photos on the forum for others to see.

Jalal,
I just uploaded the following pic from my hard drive to photobucket then copied a thumb image below.

The image appears when I preview my reply so I have submitted it.

The image I just posted now appears in this forums thread.

What is the problem affecting us in relation to use of photbucket?? Does it only apply to past postings/archived type postings?

cheers

Re:

Dave,

I see nothing but junk adverts when I click on your thumbnail above, so the PhotoBucket linking is not working and this is impacting every single old and new image hosted on their website worldwide.

OK
I didn't try clicking on thumb in the forum post after I submitted it.

However I have now clicked on the thumb I posted and it opens up OK for me. I guess that it's because it is my photo in my photobucket account.

Oh well. It is a great pic of me at the wharf of the Plantation Island Resort Fiji last year.
At least I think it's a great pic...............

I have read a lot of news since (via google) about the Photobucket issue/fiasco and worldwide there are a lot of unhappy people.......Will photobucket go bust or reverse it's decision? Time will tell.

cheers again.

Re: PhotoBucket became a paid Photos Hosting Service

Hi Dave,

I can see both the thumbnail and the actual pic when I cli8ck it and get directed to Photobucket.
Seems odd.
Might be a "bandwidth" thing where the more pics you have being viewed the more likely links won't work.

Re: PhotoBucket became a paid Photos Hosting Service

Hi Kev.
Yes it does appear odd.

Your avatar/signature pic that I can see on your reply is a square box/pic with the words...

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR ACCOUNT TO ENABLE 3rd PARTY HOSTING.

There is also a diagram of a circular meter dial face with a pointer pointing to 100%
The words under the dial state...3rd Party Hosting Usage.

Then under the dial are the words.....FOR IMPORTANT INFO PLEASE GO TO WWW.photobucket.com/P500.

Strange indeede that you can see both my thumbnail and actual pics while others can't.

Re: PhotoBucket became a paid Photos Hosting Service

It seems to be a date related thing.

If you see my relatively recent post in the Rear Fog Light thread
RFL thread
then you will see all my recent pics are OK but the avatar and signature pics which have been hosted for quite a while are not.
Even pics in my ride thread back from 2009 here are OK.

Re: PhotoBucket became a paid Photos Hosting Service

Yeah Kev.
I have just accessed both your RFL and Ride threads you mention above and the pics are fine.

It seems that it is indeed only you avatar and signature pics that are not OK on my forum access.

Jalal, seems to be some difference between what you can see compared to others. Can you see the pics OK in Kevin's posts he mentions above??

cheers again
