Later T31 have them too. in a long term the system ruins the battery, because when you drive, the voltage is only 12,7-13,2v. Maybe in warm regions it is enough, but with start/stop systems, the battery is undercarged. http://www.nissantechnicianinfo.mobi/htmlversions/2016_Feb_March_Issue_6/VoltageControl.html *It keeps the load as low as possible to maximize fuel economy. *It makes sure the alternator supplies enough power for all of the systems that are operating. https://www.qashqaiforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3214 The QQ forum has a good discussion and a solution at the end. Mine is plugged off now.nondisclosed_email@example.com (ahto42)Thu, 13 Jul 2017 22:34:03 +0000 Re: T32 Diesel Manual - Variable Voltage Alternatorhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093987,from=rss#post2093987https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093987,from=rss#post2093987Variable Voltage Alternators have been used in Pajeros for a while now (Our other vehicle is a Pajero) and yes, a BC-DC charge is the best option. In the early days - blokes would try and "trick" the alternators to continue charge by running headlights on all the time, but they quickly worked out that you basically need to run Headlights on High beam, along with the Rear demister on, seat heaters on and the HVAC fan at full to be able to draw enough current to continually draw from the battery when driving at about 2000rpm as the alternators were so efficient... So BC-DC is the best option.... nondisclosed_email@example.com (CaptK)Sat, 24 Jun 2017 15:13:37 +0000 Re: T32 Diesel Manual - Variable Voltage Alternatorhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093974,from=rss#post2093974https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093974,from=rss#post2093974Here is an article about it from REDARC REDARC BCDC for ECU controlled Variable Voltage Alternatorsnondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Thu, 22 Jun 2017 17:29:43 +0000 T32 Diesel Manual - Variable Voltage Alternatorhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093971,from=rss#post2093971https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2093971,from=rss#post2093971Hi all, I have just purchased a T32 diesel X-Trail to replace my T31. I took it down to an auto electrician and asked about additional wiring to charge my Arian battery and to have the caravan fridge operating on 12 volt. He looked under the bonnet and said that I had a variable voltage alternator, which I had never heard of before. He said that I would require a DC - DC charger as the alternator would stop charging when my caravan battery got to 100 % charged, at the expense of the vehicle battery, which would continue to drain while using the car's A/C, lights etc. Has anyone experienced a similar problem and are there other (cheaper) options available? Thanking you all in anticipation.  Cheers Graemnondisclosed_email@example.com (aussieambo)Wed, 21 Jun 2017 23:01:16 +0000
