Rear seats knock / rattle

My T31 has developed a knocking noise coming from the rear seats. It is clearly coming from the "pull up pin / lock" holding the back seat in place (i.e. the lock you pull up to pull the seats forward to access the boot).

There are several positions one can lock in the pin to adjust back seat position. Clearly the pin seems to be loose causing the whole seat to vibrate when hitting road bumps. When i pull down the seats completely this doesn't happen.

Anyone ever experienced this? Any remedy ideas? I tried taping around the pin to create a tighter lock in place but to no avail.

Thanks!

Re: Rear seats knock / rattle

Hi Kurt,

Yes I've noticed the same, but only on the passenger side. Generally I've found that the pin loosens up so tightening that definitely helps. I have tried laying the seat back a bit, which also helps and lastly if you can get someone to sit in the seat all the time then that completely fixes the problem (haha).

It can be very annoying and at times quite loud.

I must admit though that I haven't noticed it recently and I haven't done anything to permanently rectify so it's either fixed itself or I've either become accustomed to it or the stereo is drowning it out.

Allan

Re:

Yes passenger side seems to be more prominent, probably due to the passenger side being 2/3 of the rear seat, hence more weight.

Indeed with passengers at the back the xtrail is rattle free haha.

Really annoying though! emoticon

Re:

Had it once, but was caused by the seat not being put back into position properly.

Rather than padding out the pin, can you add some insulation to the holes in the bracket?

Ah. Short answer is yes.

On my mission to fix the MANY rattles coming from the rear of my recently 3rd hand purchased T31 (very high kilometre and a lot on gravel roads in it's past) at the moment. Had this exact issue with the seat behind the driver. I simply grabbed some electrical tape and looped it around between two of the slots in the seat bracket. This has 'tightened' up the space for the latch to click into the close position perfectly without having to muck around with the pin itself.

Sure it's a hack. But it works emoticon

emoticon If anything though it's made the other rattles further down towards to rear of car more noticeable. That is this weekends project! So far I've fixed another two issues. Firstly the rear floor tray missing some grommets. Secondly removed a plastic panel that was loose to to find a busted clip that'll need to super glue.

I think I might document everything I've done to (hopefully) eliminate major rattles in this T31 in a new post sometime. You know you're getting OCD levels of futzing when you start removing interior panels emoticon
