t32 st petrol towbar install

I installed a towbar on the wife's car yesterday and took some pics along the way which might help others looking to do the install themselves. I bolted the towbar up first before taking the rear bumper off but it's best to take it off first.

It might seem daunting but it was actually quite easy

The towbar cost $470 from ebay from a seller called Aranda towbar.
Tools needed
10mm, 13mm, 18mm sockets and spanners
Pliers
Phillips and flat screwdriver
Torx screwdriver
Crimping Pliers
Strippers/sidecutters
Drill and small drill bit (to mount plug)
Angle grinder (to cut slot in bumper for hitch)
Soldering iron

Male red spade terminals
1 blue 6mm ring terminal
Zip ties
Electrical tape
Solder
Grease
2x 8gx3/4 screws

More to come

Re: t32 st petrol towbar install

The kit comes with towbar, hitch, ball, pin, bolts, 7pin flat and wiring, harness, trailer light control box, and terminals (however I used additional ones)

Towbar is rated to 1500kg with 150kg Tomball weight.

To remove plastic clips use 2 small screwdrivers and lever either side. Once centre piece is raised 5mm whole plug will come out.

1. Remove mud flaps. 3 Torx screws in wheel well and underneath is 1 10mm screw and 1 plastic clip.

2. Remove part of wheel arch to access bumper bolt. Use medium flat blade screwdriver to pry under wheel Arch mould.(plugs will just pop out) be careful not to crease the wheel arch. Then remove 10mm bolt holding bumper on.

3. Remove clip underneath bumper and 10mm black bolt from on top. REPEAT PROCESS 1-3 FOR OTHER SIDE

4. Remove bumper. With a little bit of wriggling the bumper should slide off.

Image

5. Remove bumper reinforcing bar. 8 13mm nuts. 4 on either side.

Image

6. Remove lower bumper support. Undo 4 10mm nuts and slide support off. (Unfortunately I didn't get any photos before I fitted the towbar.)

9. Bolt up towbar. Fit 10 bolts. 5 each side. You may need someone to help hold the towbar up. The drivers side has thread in all the chassis rail holes needed. So it's easier to get one or two bolts in here first.
The passenger side has one hole that has thread. The other 4 you need to use the nuts that are supplied that have wire on them. Get all the bolts started before you tighten them up or you won't get them all to line up.

15. Run wiring for trailer plug. Undo trailer plug and remove wiring. You may need to cut the tail light (brown wire) and earth (white wire) off plug to remove it from harness. Cut small hole in blanking plug near jack mount and feed trailer wire through. Zip tie wiring up to existing wiring and refit 7 pin flat to harness.

Black reverse 2
White earth 3
Green right 4
Blue auxiliary brake 5
Red brake 6
Brown tail 7

18. Wire into vehicle harness. Crimp red spade terminals on the following controller wires. Red, green, yellow, brown, black. Connect bullet connector to large pink wire from controller.
Plug fuse into thick pink wire from controller.
Crimp spade terminal to end of fuse holder.
Plug spade terminals into white 6 pin plug located next to jack in the following order

Trailer harness - car plug
Yellow - grey left
Brown - brown tail
Green - pink right
