Seeking some feedback on model grades for the t32

Hi, I am about to purchase a new t32. Hoping those that have purchased can give me some feedback. I am trying to decide on which model grade to get. I test drove the ST- cvt and was impressed with the included kit for the "base" spec. I however like some of the extras available in the ST-L ( mind you at a fair few extra $ ). To get to my questions
- has anyone purchased the ST-L and found they have or haven't felt the extra features turned out to be worth it
- has anyone purchased the ST and felt they should have gone for the ST-L.

Apologies for the what may seem strange questions, maybe it's more a reflection of me second guessing myself and looking for confirmation from others ( that's probably best left to another forum site to get answers). Anyway back in point, I like the bigger screen, the 360deg camera, climate control etc and am wondering if those that have these have found them worth the $ over the ST, which still has plenty of kit at a great price.

Appreciate your time

Re: Seeking some feedback on model grades for the t32

G'day Hoisty,

We bought a ST a month ago and haven't regretted getting it over the ST-L. A big consideration was whether to go for the bigger touch screen on the ST-L, as none of the other upgraded features appealed to me or the wife. In the end we went with the ST as:
- the navigation maps are old ~2012 and the newly released ones cost about $750,
- the bluetooth integration with our android phones (Samsung S4 & S5) works well for calls and music streaming and we can execute commands on the phone by "OK Google" for android, apple might be the same with Siri
- our old car didn't have a touch screen (it had a cassette player!) so we are used to not having one, although the steering wheel controls are handy, and
- we figured that after a while, if we were desperate for navigation on screen and other audio visual bells and whistles, for $2,000 installed, we could put in an aftermarket top of the line Kenwood that has a 7" screen and has apple and android auto, that mirrors you phone, so you can use the latest google maps and voice commands eg. "OK Google, navigate home"

Basically, it comes down to whether you think the extra options are value for money and you'll get good use out of them.

Thanks Brett. Appreciate your response. As you said , it's whether I think the extras are value for money. I have not had any of those features in previous vehicles either. While some of them sound great or "nice to have" will I see the value in them. Some more pondering to do. Will heart rule over head ?
Thanks again

Re: Seeking some feedback on model grades for the t32

My partner has a T32 ST-L 2WD which I've spent a lot of time in. I think the only two things which make much difference are the around-view monitor system, and the electric heated leather seats.

The AVM is just amazing for manoeuvering, helps immensely with parking. I love it that much I cobbled together a crappy version with 4 cameras on my T31 lol.

The heated seats may not make much difference to most people, but she has severe back pain and the heat really makes a difference for her. For me, they mostly just make my back sweaty when I forget mine is on, but on those days when my lower back is bad as well, it really does help. (We're a sorry looking old pair some days both hobbling around even though we're still in our 20s lol) The added bonus of leather seats is that they're a lot easier to clean if you have pets or anything. Her big white woofer leaves a layer of white hair all over every surface in the car. That dog went in my car once. ONCE. I was scrubbing white hair off everything for weeks afterwards, as well as had to wet wash the edge of the back seat where she vomited and managed to miss the pet cover emoticon

The navigation system is atrocious. The maps are ridiculously outdated as Brett mentioned, missing major huge new sections of highways which leads to it constantly squarking navigation cues to try and get back to where it thinks the highway is. It's also just extremely frustrating to use when trying to put an address in. It's me that uses it 90% of the time so I'm well used to its idiosyncrasies but I still end up tapping just as it changes something and end up wanting to scream at it (have done on multiple occasions) just give me my phone with google maps any day!!!

I can't think of any other features between the ST vs ST-L but those are the major ones for me. Personally I think the seats and AVM probably make it worth it if you can afford it, but I'd prefer to use my phone for navigation!

Agree that the navigation is not that good, in fact it is pretty hopeless at times. That said it also works well most times, so at least it has one.

I often wonder now how I ever survived without the all round view camera and reckon the extra was worth it for that alone. It really is that good. The leather seats are also great, very comfortable. The fog lights, well, what can I say - the word useless comes to mind. I guess I could upgrade the globes but I just don't use them anyway so it is pretty pointless. I have upgraded the headlight globes so at least they are good now.

Mine has just had its second birthday (today actually) and this is the first car in a long time that I have not started to even think about changing. I usually turn them over every 2 years but I'll be keeping it for as long as I can, that's how much I like it. Do I regret the extra for the ST-L over the ST? No, definitely not. I do however sometimes regret not going the extra and going for the TI for the other little extras.

I don't even regret getting a petrol instead of diesel. After having exhaust particulate filter problems with my last diesel I won't be buying another car that has it fitted. They are a ticking time bomb under every new diesel car and when they play up they are a !@#$!

I personally think no matter which one you buy you'll enjoy it, but if you are already questioning whether to spend the extra on the L version you will probably regret it if you don't.

Re:

I'd have to agree with the guys above, the around view monitor is seriously amazing and I love knowing I'm in the parking bay by checking my screen, helps when you have people (or animals) moving around the car while you're reversing.

I'm a snob who also loves climate control A/C (I think the ST doesn't have it?).

The leather seats are also really nice and the heated seats are nice for that short period of a cold morning when the engine is still warming up so you don't have the heater operating yet. I wouldn't hesitate to get the ST-L again, but it comes down to what's important to you.
