Channging the radio in a 2009 X-Trail

Morning all,

I want to change the double DIN radio/CD standard for a win 8 based computer with all navigation, DVD, bluetooth and so on.

This needs me to remove the dash fascia and I can't see where to start. Any thoughts please?

Also I want to put a power supply into the dash top box to run charging for phones etc without wires from everywhere going to the centre console. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for the forum.

Is the Win 8 based computer a complete unit or will you be building something yourself ?
Also, which series/model T31 is it ? There were a few released in 2009

Hi Daemon,

You should really invest in a copy of the ESM (Electronic Service Manual) which is downloadable from our forum after you take-up the Full Membership (check the welcome post for details). It has everything there is to know on how dismantle the dash and other bits of your car and much much more.

For running additional power to the centre storage box, check THIS thread for details.

Re: Channging the radio in a 2009 X-Trail

hi Jalal,

I will eventually invest in the manual, but thanks for the guides so far. I have picked up several excellent guides from the post re the power socket. I will likely have a play this afternoon with that.

Kev the 2 din unit I prefer is from Carparts Mall on ebay. I had one on the RAV 4 I got out of to get into the X-Trail. That cost around $240 and was bullet proof, and my RAV sold with 300,000 K on it. It is fiddly to fit but well worth the effort and the only grief I had with the Bluetooth, wasn't. It was with the microphone. BT connections for the phone for using media were great. Occasionally, when I started the car, the Bluetooth would drop off, even though I used a headset for the phone.

I have already moved the 180watt light bar over, and the lights replaced were wired in 2.5 mm copper, so ready to go and I have room for a pair of 75 watt out ward looking LED lights for the long dark overnight trips.

FTR, I am a herpetologist, and the long dark overnights involve looking for animals close to the roadside and checking health and so on. (Think tiger snakes, western taipan et al).
