T31 Xtrail Brake Pads

Hey all,

I tried to find the info but couldn't see anything.

Is there a how to guide on changing all the brake pads on a T31? Mines a 2012 Petrol.

It will need all pads replaced soon and was thinking of just putting in standard pads again.

Any suggestions or advice for other brands or just go to the like of Supercheap?

Thanks
Jon

Re:

Can't see how this process will be any different to the existing guide covering the pads replacement for the T30 exy.

Also, refer to THIS thread for T31 brake pads part numbers...etc

Re: T31 Xtrail Brake Pads

For a non mechanical type of person that I am I found that replacing the pads all round on my T31 exy was very very easy. I used Bendix 4wd/SUV disc brake pads.

You should not have any problems if you follow the guide.

cheers and have a great day.

Re:

Hey guys I replaced the front pads and rotors on the weekend and I found that there are 2 metal shims on top of the other on the stock oem brake pads. I just put them both on the replacement pads. Does this sound right? or do I only keep one of the shims on (outer shim that touches the caliper piston)?

Re:

If they are between the back of the brake pad and the caliper piston? then they are anti rattle /anti squeal shims. I would of fitted them to the new pads for sure. Unusual to see two back to back mind...not done my pads so cannot say if mine has 1 or 2 behind each piston side pad, maybe another owner can confirm?

Sometimes.... new pads have the anti rattle / squeal shims built into the back of the new pads, do you recall seeing anything? you normally peel off a protective 'sticker' on the back of the pad as its coated with a compound to prevent squeal.

Re: T31 Xtrail Brake Pads

that picture is correct.

i ended up using ebc ultimax pads front and back with RDA slotted and dimpled rotors.

the front pads allowed for both of the shims to fit on as per factory pads but the rear ultimax pads didn't allow for the shims to fit as there was little "nipples" that stuck out of the backing plate. Although EBC provide a anti squeal material to go on the back of the backing plate.

I'm going to keep the rear factory shims just in case of course.
