Getting old, aging exies, 150K+ ?

In the last 8 months, coming up to my exy's 10th birthday, she has *suddenly* shown several signs of aging, with 245,000km on the clock.

Glove boxes broken, all 3 of them. Hardly ever open the passenger side (3 or 4 times a year), and the drivers side gets used 2 or 3 times a fortnight (on my fortnightly trek to Cairns).

Dash on the passenger side is cracking, finally.
(OK I should have bought a cover, too late now.)

Door and window seals looking very dodgy, especially the windows.

Rattling front passenger window, years ago, no-one could fix.

Carpet at front/top of the drivers footwell came away years ago, and couldn't fix it.

A CV boot needs replaciing - seems there's so many other exies with this problem they can't get any at the moment.

Also front and rear sway bar D bushes need to be replaced.
One of these was making a knocking noise within the first 10,000km whenever I hit the dirt. Recently it has become very loud. (Narky, because at the time I had it checked at several dealers and no-one took any notice of me. Or maybe it'll still be there when these are fixed and the knock I hear is something else...)

I finally wore out the set of Autobarn's best sheepskin seatcovers, last year.
Currently using large cotton towels which, although very uncool fashion-wise, are much more pleasant to sit on that anything else including sheepskin.

Lots of stone chips.

There's a problem in the air-con system, somewhere, that developed in late 2013. Despite spending $3,500 it's still not fixed. At least it still cools reasonably well for this model, but there are noises that don't sound right and shouldn't be there.

My exy has been *garaged* in the tropical sun all it's life, except for 12months in a carport a couple years ago, and it's been driven over corrugated dirt roads every 2 weeks, plus a few extras.

How old is your exy and how is it doing?

Bad advertisement? It's actually a good one because your exy lasted that long without any major problems emoticon I'll move it now.

Re:

i didn't mention a set of wheel bearings and a new muffler at 25,000km. And replacing the cat converter at 100,000km. New clutch at 150,000km. Found a broken engine mount whilst looking for aircon problems.

Re: Getting old, aging exies, 150K+ ?

For what you have done in those 10 yrs Julie it shows how reliable the Xtrail can be.

Mine is 11 yrs old with 172,000kms.

Use has been daily driver and offroad with no quarter given over the rough stuff.

Modifications can be seen in my ride thread but main ones for offroad-ability are 2" spacer lift, AT tyres, snorkel, bashplates, full stainless exhaust (increased power too).

Offroad has been beach, river crossings, mud puddles, dirt tracks and very rough rutted, rocky hillclimbs.

Replacements have been front & rear engine mounts (150k), transfer pinion seal and bearings (150k caused by rear engine mount failure), steering column universal joint (150k from all the mud), all 4 shocks (170k), both front driveshafts (170k) plus the usual tyres, battery and spark plugs. I will soon be replacing the power belt and tensioner along with the timing chain tensioner to quieten some noises.

Doing the work myself and getting genuine parts from Amayama for 50-70% of the dealer price means it is much cheaper than getting a new Xtrail...and the T30 with my mods still has the best clearance and offroad-ability than the T31 or T32 emoticon

Re:

She's done a lot of work I guess, with 3 trips to Darwin, multiple trips to SunnyCoast and Armidale NSW. Visiting people living in the middle of nowhere along tricky roads.
Now it's just a fortnightly trip to Cairns (210km each way plus running around), including only 16km of dirt road each way. That 16km of dirt road is a main roads disaster & political football, and is the main cause of most of the rattles, and the sole cause of all the stone chips.
I'm also up to my 4th windscreen, mostly due to pitting, and replaced the back window after my trailer threw a stone and shattered it. Consequently the car still has too much dust in places, and shattered glass still rattles around in the back door.
