Luggage baskets in shopping centres

Hey does anyone keep their luggage baskets on whilst in shopping centres?
I'm a bit nervous of the extra height when going up ramps.
I want to add a basket to my T31 ST MY10 which has Nissan roof racks.

Plan is to keep it on for the spur of the moment getaways, don't really want to be taking it on and off. (I understand it will be a different story with luggage in it. I will probably use the basket for light gear, bedding, and put the tent, etc, in the boot)

Also, I am parked on the street, anyone know of issues with them being nicked?

Thanks folks.

Re:

Not too sure how high your roof basket sits mate, but I had an awning and shovel mounted to my rhino hd bars on my T31 and got into carparks as low as 2.1m. My xtrail had roughly 3" of total lift and obviously the gear on the roof (which on its own was probably not quite as tall as a basket would be if sitting on top of roof crossbars). My 2011 pajero has 2" lift from suspension, 1" lift from tyres and has thule crossbars mounted on top of the factory roof rails, and then an awning on top of that and I measure exactly 2.15m. Do not take my word for it, but I think you should be pretty safe.

Re:

You just have to measure the total height of the basket on the X Trail on level ground.
Keep the number in mind when entering underground car parks.

Re:

I've got Prorack bars and Kayak Cradles on mine and have gone in carparks as low as 1.95.

ONLY time I've ever scraped them was putting the car into my dads garage to get out of the weather and do an Oil change, his roller door is relatively low.

Nice one folks. Sure it'll be all good. Think I'll base my measurements on 1.95.
Can't wait to get out there 😀

Re:

I think unless you are using the roof racks weekly, I beleive it would be counter productive to leave them on, as it will affect your fuel economy. You would just need to factor in the time to refit the roof basket, when you are planning to go on a trip.

Cheers

John
