Re: Softroader Magazine

Had a look at their website, should be interesting for us softroaders who venture out touring. It should be in newsagents this weekend.

Hi All,

The first issue of Adventure SUV arrived in the mail today. I was impressed after a quick flick through, time to sit down to a night of leisurely reading.

Cheers

Re:

Hey everyone,

Since the first issue of the magazine has been out for a couple of weeks i wondered what everyone thought of it?

Anything you would change, anything you'd prefer to read rather than whats there?

Would be good to get your overall thoughts.

Cheers

Re:

I think the magazine is pretty good. I wouldn't change anything. The only criticism I have is in regards to the story on the SUV Revolution. There was no pictures of X-Trails in the story.

Cheers

Re: Softroader Magazine

1. There should be a little more attention to detail regarding proof-reading (SUV Revolution, Editor's note, first sentence second paragraph for example).
2. Advertising should be aimed at the content of the magazine (what does Abalone Wars or the Motor Cycle Show have to do with SUVs).
3. Advertising pics of equipment should try to feature it fitted on an SUV instead of a 4WD with modified suspension winching up a rocky hill.

Re: Softroader Magazine

I have to agree with everything Kev has talked about.

Spelling is the most common issue I've seen in this publication. Rookie mistake not running it through at least a word spell check.

Ads for non-related services (i guess they need to fill in pages for advertisers)

Ads for heavy duty 4WD gear that doesn't have ANY connection to SUVs.

I'd probably looking for more of a hybrid publication, along NRMA/RACVs publication for holiday destinations, some off-road touring, etc. I quite like Unsealed 4x4's direction. Although its aimed at 4x4s, its not a hardcore lifted truck, crazy bonnet deep creek crossings type of mag. It has useful reviews, products etc.

The problem has, and will be, is that SUVs are mainly seen as shopping trolleys carting kids around, not off-roaders.

The problem with generalising SUVs, is that on one side, we have the HRV/CRV style SUVs which would struggle getting through pot holes at the soccer field car park, but then you have our cars with lockable centre-diffs, foresters (previously with dual transfer case) and jeep Cherokee which has decent angles.

There is no minimum or maximum bench mark for off-roading within the classification; contrasted to the Colorado7/MUX etc. which are SUV like, but have been built as 4WDs and there's a basic expectation where cars in the 4WD segment can go, and publications can be built around that.
