For the extra few cents on 98 over 95, I've found it worthwhile to run mine on 98. In my particular experience, that adds about 5% better fuel economy and the 98 BP and Caltex have the cleaners not included in 91 or 95 ron fuels. So I don't have to pay extra to buy fuel additives to clean the system - which I would otherwise have to do regularly with 91 and 95. I laugh at the expensive offers from the Dealer to clean the throttle body and the sensors should last longer. That saves on replacement cost of those items as well. By my numbers, using 98 (and choosing when to buy on the fuel cycle) puts me ahead of the curve. I also like the extra power. If it works for me, it should work for others.nondisclosed_email@example.com (DogTrail)Sat, 18 Oct 2014 00:50:32 +0000 Re: Engine warning light / bad batch of fuel?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085523,from=rss#post2085523https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085523,from=rss#post2085523Thanks for the info Kev, the expensetrail is a PITA for fuel, won't run on 91 has to be 95 which is always 10c/L more expensive and E10 will kill it. nondisclosed_email@example.com (davess)Thu, 16 Oct 2014 10:05:45 +0000 Re: Engine warning light / bad batch of fuel?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085519,from=rss#post2085519https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085519,from=rss#post2085519It's not the RON it's the Ethanol which will eat all the seals in the fuel system making it necessary to replace them all because of chemical reactions with rubber and metallic parts causing deterioration and corrosion. See this link taking special note of the descriptions at the bottom of the page.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Wed, 15 Oct 2014 21:59:42 +0000 Re: Engine warning light / bad batch of fuel?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085509,from=rss#post2085509https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085509,from=rss#post2085509Thanks Kev, I know the E10 isn't in the manual but it's a higher RON than 91 which makes the thing ping it's head off at low speeds. The error codes... 134 O2 sensor no input detected & 328 Knock sensor 1 circuit high input *** code 134, the sensor was not connected, I replaced it recently and the new sensor had unclipped itself. it's back together now and with a cable tie to make sure it stays put.nondisclosed_email@example.com (davess)Wed, 15 Oct 2014 11:53:54 +0000 Re: Engine warning light / bad batch of fuel?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085501,from=rss#post2085501https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085501,from=rss#post2085501First problem is that your Xtrail is a 2002 model and the recommendations are that ONLY Nissans AFTER 2004 are suitable for E10 fuel according to here unless you have something in your handbook which tells you otherwise. Try running the MIL diagnostic using the accelerator pedal procedure here and check the code it produces to find out what the error might be.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Tue, 14 Oct 2014 16:44:11 +0000 Engine warning light / bad batch of fuel?https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085498,from=rss#post2085498https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2085498,from=rss#post2085498Gents, put Caltex 95 (Normally run United E10 95) in on Sunday have had Engine light on since. Have replaced cam/crank/O2 sensors in last month and cleaned MAF... Engine runs fine, idles and accelerates fine. Have tried fuse out and battery off ecu resets, no change. Could the expense trail be reacting to the different fuel? Do I start trying do dilute the Caltex 95 with 91 or start adding E10?? nondisclosed_email@example.com (davess)Tue, 14 Oct 2014 09:43:12 +0000
