T31 dash light too bright
Hello Peoples,
It has come to my attention that the bright blue light on the instrument panel showing high beam is on just way too bright on my series 5 T31. It glares right in my face at night and especially with me wearing glasses produces a lot of glare that I could definitely do without.
I currently have a piece of tape stuck on the plastic in front the panel, which definitely helps but looks absolutely awful, so I'm trying to work out a more professional solution.
I'm thinking that if I can get into the back of the instrument panel, I can just stick a piece of paper or something behind the face of that light it to make it dimmer. Having looked in the service manual though, this looks like a bit of a mission. Has anyone done it before?
Or does anyone have any other ideas about how to reduce the brightness of that particular light?

Re:
Put up a picture as there are a few different forms of back lighting on different models.
If it is say an outlined blue symbol, then I don't think you can 'dim' it.

Re:
Might be a tricky one that one.
You can try to pull the dash out and hope that it is a single led behind there, but I don't think your going to be able to dim it.

Re: T31 dash light too bright
I guess if all else fails I should at least be able to put some dark tape over the face of it, which will look better than it being stuck to the clear window.

Re:
Brilliant idea, if you get sick of pink you can always change to another colour.
I would have thought for sure that it would have been a pain in the arse to do.

Re: T31 dash light too bright
Went out for a drive and everything's hunky dory.
It was actually far easier than expected. The service manual says you need to take the steering wheel off and indicator/wiper stalks off, but I didn't wanna mess with all that and it really isn't necessary.
You do need to take the steering column cover off, because the top half of it is attached to the instrument panel surround by a section of vinyl stuff.
The instrument panel surround just pulls off along the top edge, then lifts up and out. Once the surround and connected steering column cover are off, it's just 2 phillips head screws holding the instrument cluster on, which pulls straight out with a little bit of effort, since it's clipped in as well.
There's one big plug going into the back, so take that off and the cluster is free. There are 4 torx screws on the back of the cluster, then just a few clips holding the clear plastic front on, and you're in!

Re: T31 dash light too bright
Yeah my dad's work rodeo had the same problem. He went the sticky tape route since it was a company car.
I couldn't stand looking at the tape on my own car though, knowing I could do a better job. being a perfectionist is a pain sometimes!
I had a glorious glare-free drive home last night
