Re: Headlights and high beam
Hey Down our way the Police put very large notices in the local paper stating that fog lamps were only for that purpose, and not top be used at other times, and then started fining people a couple of weeks later, after an initial warning. This was brought about by turkeys fitting LED fog lights WTF as if you need more power in fog!
I'll admit to running them all the time daylight as well I run the low beam as well during the day to increase viability, but I have adjusted them to their lowest setting, so they don't throw far and just fill in in front a bit, I will turn them off in the rain when on two lane bi directional roads though for the reason you stated, they glare off the road and annoy/blind oncoming motorists.
I am looking for 2700K globes for them now, Very Yellow IPF make them but so far I cant get a hold of them, so that this will be reduced because I was in very heavy fog the other night and they were practically useless with the factory colour temp. If I cant get the correct temp I'll be fitting either a yellow or orange film over them.
Anyhow I'm still looking for the IPFs and will fit them in preference to film.
Well bye for now!

I have to correct you there Augustus.
Fog lights can be used in adverse driving conditions which include, fog, mist and heavy rain.
This is the current law Australia wide.
I don't know why fog lights are being discussed in a headlights and highbeam thread.

That's correct.
Please leave the discussion about fog lights for another existing thread and let's keep this one on topic. Thanks

Re:
Take one of your globes out Gail and take it with you to Supercheap Auto.
There you can get the same ones but brighter.
I replaced my standard globes H4 in the Navara recently with +120 Narvas.
To be honest there is a slight improvement but not earth shattering.
I got them online for $40 as Supercheap sell them for twice that price.

Re: Headlights and high beam
For the "facelifted" Series 4 & 5 T31 with the teardrop-shaped lights (these are referred to as type B lights in the manual) you need separate globes for high and low beam.
These are H1 for high beam and H11 for low.
I replaced both high and low with Philips Crystal Vision 4300K globes, and while I love the clear white colour, they're not spectacularly brighter than the stock globes.
I think a lot of the problem is the aiming of the lights. For starters, make sure the headlight aiming control is at the highest setting. This is the little rolly switch thing down and right of the steering wheel, where the ESP button is.
When I first picked up my car I had no idea you could adjust them with the switch and wondered why the lights were pointing so low.
Secondly, you can adjust the aim of the whole headlight housing using screws on the back.
THIS POST has instructions on how to do this.
I just recently adjusted mine up a bit, and it made a huge difference. I did some test drive-bys with someone in another car to make sure they're not blinding for other drivers.

Re:
I think you can still find them on eBay Kev.
With all the advanced LED and Cree alternatives however, am not sure about them still being the best but they're the best halogen bulb alternative to the factory globes for sure.
I have to check my garage, as I remember having a set as back-up for my T30 HID kit.

Re: Headlights and high beam
I'm also looking into a set of LED replacements but I know the fatboys were good.
The HIDs have died and I'm replacing them with something else because they don't like being used to flash other motorists due to the initial high voltage arc-strike being triggered each time when cold.

Re:
I found the set of Fatboys in the garage, so give me a yell if you want to buy them. I hardly used them and only carried them as back-up for my HIDs.
