Camping Weekend @ Watagans Friday 6/6 to Sunday 8/6 (June Long weekend)

Hi Guys,

It's been ages since we last camped as family and even more so as a group, so am throwing the idea out there for consideration and show of hands.

I remember doing this camping trip in 2005 and the camp ground is called "The Pines Camp Ground", so am not sure if it is still there, but we can certainly check what is available, as am sure this wasn't the only spot.

When: June Long Weekend Starting Friday 6th of June and ending on Sunday 8th of June
Where: Base-Camp will be the Turpentine Campsite (with Casuarina as backup site for those who wish to bring a camper trailer or campervan)

Attendees:

* dlpeek (Dave) - Camping
* konazz (Michael) - Day Drive
* Strez (Gail) - Camping?
* matty bell (Matt) - Camping
* Jupitor 2 (Peter) - Day Drive
* rescue1 (Alan) - Tentative

Re: Anyone Interested in a Camping Weekend @ Watagans?

I've been to the Watagans around half a dozen times over the last year. "The Pines" is an areas rather than a specific camp ground. It includes 3 separate camp grounds and a picnic area. There is also 'The Basin' which is probably the nicest camp ground but it's walk in camping only.
What else do you want to know?

Thanks Todd

Are there any tracks to explore around the area and what is their condition like? Wet and dry.

Re: Anyone Interested in a Camping Weekend @ Watagans?

There is heaps of good quality dirt roads that would be OK even if raining but they can get terribly boring after a while. All the interesting tracks are side tracks but the problem there is that they aren't maintained. This means 99% of them are not suitable for X-trails. Those with road tyres will be even more limited. If you set a minimum level of mods like lift, bash plates and A/T tyres you will be able to explore a little more.

Standard vehicles will be limited to the main roads. That will still allow you to visit places like Boarding House Dam and obviously the Pines area. There are some simple tracks around the back of The Basin too.

Count me in Jalal once I get time to put in my replacement front driveshafts.
It is starting to get to the cold parts of the year but there is the June long-weekend coming up soon if early frosty mornings don't bother you.

Re:

Good stuff Kev and nope it doesn't bother me at all, what bothers me is the standard road tyres I have on the Red Bull which will limit where we can venture out in it but I guess camping will be the main theme of this trip anyway.

Am interested as well Jalal. The cheese and kisses is not into camping but my brother ( + nephews) from Newcastle has indicated a tentative possible but once again, dates rule. Anyway, if June long weekend, or any other locked in then I have something to work on.

cheers.

No worries Dave, I think this will be a goer....so I will proceed to discuss with my wife and see if she's upto it. I know after the recent "Father & Sons" camping weekend trip I did with my boys they are/will be very keen.

June long weekend sounds perfect for sure, so let us plan around that time.
