T32 Owner Impressions

Ok. So it's been exactly a week since I picked up the keys to my new T32 2WD ST-L.

First impressions, its very easy to drive. Doesn't feel like I'm driving a big automobile. Steering is light and responsive. Engine is powerful and acceleration a breeze, considering it's only a 2.5L in a mid-sized SUV. No complains on any sort of droning noise from the CVT.

Ride wise was a bit bumpy initially, until I checked the kPa levels in the tyres. Somehow my car was delivered to me with 38 kPa in all tyres although the owner's manual recommended 33 kPa for the front tyres and 31 for the rear. I reduced the pressure to 35 and 33, and the ride feels better.

Fuel economy I'm getting about 10l/100km with mostly urban driving. My best was 6.8l/100km for a 40 minute 80% freeway trip. On the third day, I filled my tank with Caltex 98, and the drive felt more powerful. On a full tank, the driver panel info screen showed that I had 650KM till the tank went empty.

Coming over from a large sedan (Mitsubishi 380), the interior feels roomy even after installing a child seat in the back row. The boot with the hide and divide multi-level panels work really well in terms of making use of space.

Friends who have been in my T32 have commented on the luxurious feel to the interior and the space available.

The tech toys in the middle console and driver's panel are nice. The entertainment unit picks up digital radio broadcasts (DAB). It paired first time with my Samsung Note II, picks up the phone contacts and displays them on the console when in Phone mode. It also plays MP3s on my phone via bluetooth. However, the driver panel and steering wheel controls are not as intuitive and interactive as I think they can be. For example, you still need to touch the touch-screen panel to perform some functions, although I would have thought it could be programmed to work via the steering controls, especially with Navigation.

Problems/Bugs...................

Well.... this wouldn't really be classified as a vehicle problem, but I had an incident with the Intelligent Key last week. I parked my car at a shopping centre and walked off without turning the engine off and locking the car....... the shock I had when I returned 30 mins later to find the engine running and the interior cold from the air conditioning. What I had done after parking was, I engaged the foot brake, pressed the middle console's 'Enter' button instead of the engine 'Start' button. I then proceeded to step out, closed the door and pressed the lock button on the door handle. Thinking that it's locked and all is well, I walked into the mall. Somehow, I think there should be some kind of indication on the Intelligent Key or from the vehicle to warn that the engine is still running yet the key is not in the vicinity. Anyway, I've now learnt to shut off my engine properly with the right button. Thank goodness my car remained safe.

Radio has a bug....... This morning I was in the process of restarting my paired phone when I stepped into the vehicle. Upon starting the engine, the radio did not work, it could not detect any of the DAB channels. AM radio didn't work too. After my phone finished rebooting, the console detected at as a bluetooth device, but it could not play anything. I was on my way to work and mid-way, I shut-down the engine and restarted twice, but the problem was still there. Frustrated, I navigated into the system settings and reset it to factory settings. Still didn't work. I was thinking of bringing it to the dealer during my lunch time. I went online and found that someone with an American Rogue had the same problem when his wife's phone was in the car and the phone was in the process of pairing or synching when the radio would freeze (http://forums.nicoclub.com/rogue-2014-radio-freezes-t585613.html). Anyway, couple hours later, I got back into the car, started the engine, and radio is working again..... Not sure if I can replicate the problem again when I bring my car in for the 1000 KM service.

Thanks for the report Jase. It is always interesting reading first impressions from the actual owners.

If the T32 is like the T30 and T31, the fuel consumption will improve after the first 10-20,000kms

Hi Jase,

Did your T32 come fitted with mudflaps or is Nissan selling them as extra?

Also, what is the story with the roof rails? On the one I test drove, it had some weird looking silver roof rails going along the roof, so am not even sure what sort of roof bars can fit this type of roof rails....have you investigated that yet?

I guess, there are no roof lights in option? Like Safari lights on T30 or T31
