Beerburrum run 13 April 2014
Forgive me if I have jumped the gun to make this trip report.
However I was probably the first one home & I was impatient to say how much I enjoyed the day out.
It was raining... but not torrential, so no big deal.
An 'interesting' trip with some mechanical and terrain challenges presented to the participants.
Some people had a more eventful trip than others.
My Snowbeast just went there and then came back. Not even any significant mud to show on the exterior. What little there was, I wiped off with a cloth while resetting the tyre pressure...it's a long way from 25 to 38psi.
Their reports will be more interesting and informative.
The rain washed my car before it was even home. It hardly knew it had been away -
However, I did find that the fuel consumption did climb to 9.23 L/100 Km for that trip when I refuelled the car (while prices were still down) & re-pumped the tyres on the way home.
Naturally, the front plastic "sump guard" made the trip home in the boot.
I lost the blasted thing on that last little bump in the entire trip. I did say a word or two.
I'm currently uploading my car cam video to Photobucket, however I don't know how to edit video uploads so I'd suggest everyone either skips through or runs at high speed to zone in on the good parts.
Also, there may be some AO rated language used when I was surprised. If easily offended, you may prefer to turn down the volume - but you will then miss out on the random, but surprisingly appropriate background music.
It goes without saying that I'm also incompetent in hiding vehicle Rego numbers in that video dump.
So before I post a link to the video - should anyone on that trip NOT want their Rego numbers shown, then please let me know and I won't show the link.

The Pajero handled it magnificently - even the self-inflicted bits.
It was very reassuring to know that there was a capable recovery vehicle available.
Also, tail end Charlie is not the happiest of all positions in a convoy.
Nor is the forward 'point' position. (Let's see if he goes underwater?)
It all worked well on the day. (He didn't drown - despite the large bow-wave).
Good people. Well organised. Solid backup.
Serious 4WD people with heavy duty gear were in deep Doo Doo's on that day on that track, but everyone in the X-Trail Convoy drove home.
Edit: Uploading my Video to Photobucket is bloody near impossible.
After 5 hours, a few files at 2Mb each made it in from the folder (bulk upload) then I was hit with a general 'upload failed' message. That didn't help me much.
I tried uploading one selected 200Mb file -the upload failed after 45 minutes. Not working for me tonight.
I might try at another time before walking away - but don't hold your breath

Well, Mike (my learner driver son) and I really enjoyed ourselves.
It was my first time on dirt/mud/brackish water, so it was quite a learning exercise
Newbie moment for me was not disengaging the ESP when my vehicle wouldn't move..not sure why...maybe something to do with the terrain I was sinking into, or the log keeping me from sinking any further!! It's a shame there's no video of me heading outbound just before turning back as I was WAY more sideways than I should have been (just ask Vickie), but at least I didn't get bogged in the really deep stuff
A couple of plastic bits attached to the under carriage came adrift, but are back in place now and another bag of scrivets are on order.
Fauna spotting of the day goes to the BIG eastern grey that loped in front of Jamie's car fairly early into the run (he was going pretty slow, so no chance of damage).
It was also the first time I'd used my radios, so it was nice to know they work before I really needed them 
I'm happy to say that no X-Trail drivers had to call the RACQ due to car failure
I hosed off most of the mud when I got home, but will give the exy a good gernie wash on the weekend.
All in all it was a great experience, and a big thanks goes out to Vickie and Dave for organising the trip. I'm keen for another one any time soon.

Guys I don't mean to pick but whoever was driving the red X-Trail needs some recovery lessons before they break something. First I saw a pic of the car being snatched forwards with the front wheels were on almost full lock. This makes it much harder for the recovery vehicle, increases the risk of damaging the snatch strap and makes the recovery harder to control.
The 2nd thing I saw with the same vehicle was it being recovered backwards from the rear tie down point. I can't even begin to tell you how dangerous this is. Have a look at this thread to see some potential results of doing that.
Whoever was the red X-Trail driver don't take this as having a go at you personally. I just hope you learn from the experience and do it better next time.

Hi Guys
Sorry for the delay in posting a trip report. Between school holidays & being off colour it’s been a big couple of days.
Thank you Dogtail for starting the post, video and Blackthunda for posting some pics
Well for a run we only gave a week’s notice for, we had a good turnout with the following attending:

The day was pretty wet with lots of activity from 4WD’s and trail bikes I don’t think I’ve seen that many out before. It must have been all the mud that had them out in droves.
It was a very eventful day we all meet at McDonalds as planned and just after leaving it started to rain which sorta indicated what sort of day we were up for. To heavy by any means but a constant drizzle.
In the most part the tracks were pretty good considering the rain the area had received overnight. We did a small hill off the main track then headed up to the lookout for morning tea.
Poor Blackthunda had to call RACQ for the Pajero when it refused to start and RACQ couldn’t find us and ended up in the wrong lookout, the problem resolved itself but later on I did wonder if this was a sign that we should have called it quits due to the weather etc. But we soldiered on.
We started down the powerline track and everything was going fine till we hit the creak crossing. We made it through fine but for Dave an experienced driver he found it challenging. It was at this point I think we may have had a problem with the radios.
Dave wanted to find an optimal route for everyone, but we ended up with others following on behind and then the fun started. Mfeodoroff said he almost when sideways but made it up to a point and poor VickieG ended up stuck. Due to the depth of the xtrail + mud etc they were limited on how to do the recovery but she made it out.
Then poor Mfeodoroff also needed a recovery when we made the decision to turn around. We had a couple of other 4WD’s waiting for us to get past and they were nice enough to help out with the recovery.
Unfortunately the cowboys in the jacked up 4WD’s ended up in a very bad way from what we could see so it wasn’t just us needing assistance with recoveries on the day.
So we headed back to the lookout out for some lunch then called it quits as by this point the rain had started to get heavy and the tracks were just not worth the risk.
We hope everyone had a great day, and we learnt alot.
I haven't done any editing on the pics so please let me know if you would like a number plate blacked out or pics removed.
