I have no idea if they work or not, but this is the first time I've seen a roo come on the road in over 2 years of having them on. I do quite a lot of driving at night through very roo-populated areas. Being a snake catcher I never know when or where I'll get a call out at night and it's not uncommon to be heading off to the middle of woop woop at 10pm or later. Plus my partner lives about 25mins away along a notoriously roo infested road, which is where I hit this one. I try not to head to her place along this particular road too late because the visibility on the sides is very poor in a lot of places, as you can see in the video. It was going up a hill with a fairly steep drop off on both sides so you can't see what's waiting to jump out onto the road until it's too late. It also didn't help that I just glanced down at my speed as I let the revs drop a bit lower than normal going up the hill, and just as I looked back at the road I saw a flash of grey from the side then BANG. No time to react at all. Probably just as well I was going slower than usual, and just as well I didn't see it and instinctively try to swerve or anything.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dark Morelia)Wed, 23 Mar 2016 16:14:41 +0000 Re: Drew's T31 EXYhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090859,from=rss#post2090859https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090859,from=rss#post2090859Hi Drew I have had the plastic ones on all of my cars for many years. The only time I have seen animals near the road when I was driving was the night both of them where blocked by moths. I used to do a lot of disk and dawn driving between Parks and Dubbo and since then have always had them on my car. I believe that one is nowhere near as effective as two.nondisclosed_email@example.com (cyberbrett)Tue, 22 Mar 2016 13:20:43 +0000 Re: Drew's T31 EXYhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090858,from=rss#post2090858https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090858,from=rss#post2090858Brett, I still have one on the car. I did have two, but looks like I've lost one somewhere. Don't know if they help. It didn't seem to worry the little one I clobbered. I think it was a wallaby, not an actual kangaroo, so I dunno if that makes any difference. Mind you I was probably only doing 70km/h so the shuroo might not have been working at its best. I've previously seen big roos by the side of the road and by the time I get within about 100m they head off. Whether it has anything to do with the shuroos or they just hear the car, I don't know. EDIT: I just looked what an actual "ShuRoo" brand one is, I don't have one of those. Just the el cheapo little plastic whistle things. I didn't buy em, they were given to me so I figured I might as well stick em on lolnondisclosed_email@example.com (Dark Morelia)Tue, 22 Mar 2016 12:20:36 +0000 Re: Drew's T31 EXYhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090841,from=rss#post2090841https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090841,from=rss#post2090841Hi Drew, Do you have ShuRoo's (AKA Hopper Stopper) on your car?nondisclosed_email@example.com (cyberbrett)Mon, 21 Mar 2016 14:59:20 +0000 Re: Drew's T31 EXYhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090840,from=rss#post2090840https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090840,from=rss#post2090840Hmmm I pried the trim off a bit and peeked in and it didn't look like I could access it. Luckily it looks like the bottom edge of the bar took the brunt of it and caused it to roll under and hit the lower corner of the bumper, flexing it back a bit and popping the wheel arch trim off the clips. But everything clicked back into place and I don't think there's any damage. Haven't looked at it properly in daylight yet though. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dark Morelia)Sun, 20 Mar 2016 16:02:10 +0000 Re: Drew's T31 EXYhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090828,from=rss#post2090828https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090828,from=rss#post2090828My poor baby has been in the wars a bit lately. Kinda hard to see the mounts on mine since it's mounted upside down with the mounts turned backwards. It was $190, I got it on their ebay store. With hindsight, I probably could've just gone with the light bar. You can hardly even tell the spots are on when the bar is on too. I mainly got the spots because everything I read says light bars just spread light around without projecting any distance, but I think because I got the bar with fewer bigger LEDs rather than the double row of weaker ones, it projects the light quite well. Far enough to light the road up effectively at highway speeds while also lighting up the margins where roos wait.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dark Morelia)Tue, 11 Aug 2015 10:49:08 +0000 Re: Drew's T31 X-Chariothttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2088602,from=rss#post2088602https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2088602,from=rss#post2088602What wattage is your light bar? Holy hell the light bar is bright!! Wiring them all up through high beam and individual switches was a bit of a pain. I couldn't find switches that matched the interior lighting exactly, but they're pretty nice. A tad bright though, so I'm thinking if I put a tiny bit of red film over them they might match the rest a bit better and be a bit dimmer. Still having trouble aiming the driving lights down enough though. I may have to make another thread about it since I'm just about at my wit's end with them. EDIT: Never mind, I attacked the driving light mounts with a dremel so they can point down more. My bullbar brackets seem to lean backwards at an angle and I couldn't see and feasible way to move them or the bullbar.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dark Morelia)Fri, 23 Jan 2015 16:07:06 +0000 Re: Drew's T31 X-Chariothttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2086119,from=rss#post2086119https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2086119,from=rss#post2086119All done! I couldn't attach the trailer plug under the reverse light where the instructions said to put it, because the rear bash plate covers those up. So I could either put it all the way to one side of the bumper past the bash plate, or just have it in the boot. I figured that trailer wires might not reach to either side of the bumper, so I just put the plug in the left hand compartment with the jack and wheel brace. It's all neat and tidy that way and easy to get out when I need it nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dark Morelia)Fri, 05 Dec 2014 17:08:44 +0000 Re: Drew's T31 X-Chariothttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2086016,from=rss#post2086016https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2086016,from=rss#post2086016Thanks guys, I made a new thread about it HERE because I couldn't quite find an existing thread that fit.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Dark Morelia)Thu, 27 Nov 2014 11:05:15 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2086011,from=rss#post2086011https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2086011,from=rss#post2086011Yeah Drew, the towbar is not that hard at all.
