That would stop any power supply radio interference being transmitted through the cabling. Also check with a multimeter that the body of the lightbar is earthed properly and run an extra earthing wire to the vehicle body if not.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Wed, 20 Jan 2016 12:45:56 +0000 Re: Led light barhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090306,from=rss#post2090306https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090306,from=rss#post2090306Hi, I've put the RFI choke on, and although its better, it's still very noticeable. Most light bars use a pulse-width-modulator to drive the LEDs with higher voltage pulses to get the maximum light output but allow time for the LED to cool between pulses, usually at on/off frequencies higher than the human eye can detect. This high frequency on/off switching is what causes the interference on your radio if there is no radio-frequency interference suppression built-in to the light bar. Get a clip-on RFI choke from an electronics store such as Jaycar and clip it around the power cable to the light bar as close as you can to the light.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Mon, 21 Dec 2015 10:46:44 +0000 Re: Led light barhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090024,from=rss#post2090024https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2090024,from=rss#post2090024Hi, I've fitted a light bar on the nudge bar, with a relay through a switch on the dash, getting the signal from the high beam wire behind the LHS headlight. Works great. However now when I use the light bar, some radio stations have a lot of static on them, to the point where I have to go to a stronger signal station or use cd's or aux. Small problem I know, but if anyone has had this problem and rectified it, I'd like to know how it was fixed. Not one of those dodgy looking tubes that people use, rather a very sturdy looking bracket. Not that the 12" height advantage over the number plate could compare to mounting it on a bullbar. I have 2 x 9" HIDs in the middle bar of my ECB nudge bar, with two 90W LED driving lights in between them. I have attached a link to the LED driving lights http://korrlighting.com.au/90w-led-driving-light.html and driving lights http://www.ironman4x4.com/products/driving-lights/lights/supernova-35w-hid-driving-light-9-h11-6000k-pair Note that I paid a good price for 2 when I signed up for the 4WD Action mag, with driving harness. Yet to road test my setup. I will find out when I drive the 1850km to Brisbane in 48hrs. That position will soon be illegal in WA and if you read through the "intent" of the laws on positioning of accessories at the front of a vehicle, the top of the nudgebar could be considered as a pedestrian injury hazard similar to fishing-rod holders. I would relocate the LED lightbar to under the top nudgebar rail if it is short enough to fit.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Revhead Kev)Wed, 19 Aug 2015 10:21:22 +0000 Re: Led light barhttps://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2088702,from=rss#post2088702https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2088702,from=rss#post2088702Hi, Firstly, my original set up. Spotties on the tabs with a LED bar on the top rail held on by s/steel GME aerial brackets. However I didn't have a UHF aerial, until now. New plan I have an aluminium Equal Angle cut to the width of my nudge bar (so that it fits inside the outer vertical posts). This is bolted to the existing light tabs on the ECB nudge bar. This has allowed me to widen the space between my 220mm HID spotties, and therefore also provided me with an opportunity to put an additional 1 or 2 square LED driving lights. Can anyone (with certainty of the law in Qld) tell me whether a single square LED driving light would be allowed between my larger Spotties? I have been told that according to the rules/regs which I believe I read too, driving lights "must be mounted in pairs". I am wondering whether the fact it contains 9 LEDs would possibly get me out of the term "driving light", as LED bars are allowed to be "mounted symmetric (centre) of the vehicle". If I was allowed to have it this way, I would mount my LED bar on the top rail again and bolt a UHF bracket to my Al EA (although the base would then be located at the mid height of the nudge bar aka the same height as the regular driving lights). This may affect the performance of the UHF I think. I would love to add photos of these descriptions, however I can't seem to upload them through photobucket without my iPad crashing. Any thoughts? Then as Kev said you'll need a bar with sliding mounts on the bottom of it to fit the existing holes. I've just returned from a 10 week driving trip to Darwin and back. Nearly every 4WD has a LED Lightbar and uses it on the highway, as do every commercial vehicle (Coach, truck, road train etc) that I passed. I would highly doubt that a reputable touring company, would legally put themselves at risk by installing a LED lightbar if it made that vehicle uninsured. I use my lightbar all the time on the highway, especially in the outback. But the same theories apply to LED Light Bars as they do to use of High Beams. (ie dim them on approach to oncoming vehicle). I love my LED Lightbar as I wired it into my factory fitted driving lights so it runs off the same rocker switch. My next phase is to install a 22 inch lightbar on the roof that is bolted to the roof rack. Can't wait ! So in my humble opinion, if a major manufacturer is stating this, I'll take it as gospel that they don't comply. They wouldn't cover their asses like this on an Item that could be one of their hottest sellers if it were ADR compliant. Sure it's a grey area and maybe the laws do need a major review, but until I see a LED bar with ADR compliance, I wont be fitting one, and I suggest you don't either, there are the ARB LED Intensity Floods/Spots available that are ADR compliant, so why risk breaking the law. Also it's like anything, early adopters pay more, I did, but surely if sales went up, prices would come down. And just because you haven't be pulled over yet and fined or warned, doesn't make them legal! So pony up and stop being tight asses, and buy the "ONLY" Legal ADR compliant LED Auxiliary Lights on the market, ARB LED Intensities. I would be interested to know whether a brand like great white as a single source led bar like 16" would be better than my bar. For the price I paid I'm not complaining. They have their own switch separate to the HIDs I use too. It terms of legality ... I live in very rural Qld and drive often at night through areas of roos and they definitely help spot them quicker with their flood lighting. A lot of 4WDs up here have them and some are even the entire width of the vehicle! Up here no one to my knowledge has been booked for them and that news would spread quickly if it was the case. I think if you're silly enough to have them in suburbia and use them then you're dead at risk of being fined. I have no regrets with mine and I am very pleased with my set up. If anything, I'd get booked for having them mounted above my nudge bar. Again no one up here I believe has been booked for this either cuz that's the main place everyone puts them. At the end of the day, the owner takes the risk of anything they mod to their vehicle. I wouldn't be impressed if I was not pre-warned from the police force themselves to say otherwise. But I accept the consequences at the end of the day.
