Re: Re:

Then we have more confusion. There are two holes in each shield and I have a little packet of black brackets, tiny rivets and rivet caps.

"Installing brackets to the defectors ... Install the brackets at the back of the side wind deflectors. Place the bracket and rivet cap at the back of each mounting hole and press in the push rivet from the front side."

There are measurements you indicate on the door with duct tape in relation to positioning the shields (I read all this 3 times but it didn't sink in, did it). The weather seal is pulled down to just short of the upper window corners. You peel back x cm of the tape on the shield itself from each end so you can remove it (that part I understand!).

"Align the upper edge of the deflector with the lower edges of the masking tapes.
Push in the brackets until they contact the lower edge of the door panel as shown in the drawing."

I think I'll have to actually put the brackets onto the shields, mark the doors with the masking tape and then see how the brackets actually are supposed to fit.

Yes, please do, Drew. Just to be sure I'm not stuffing it up. I was about to give up and curl up into a ball. Now I'm ready to take on the challenge ... and kick myself because maybe this isn't so hard. Doh!

Re: It's official. I own an X-Trail!

Well at least you got instructions with yours! I had to dive in blind. Although by the sounds of it, the instructions don't really clarify much, lol.
I generally consider myself quite good at seeing how things go together, and it still took me quite a while to work out. Especially the little clips which hold the brackets onto the shields.

Just take a breather, I'll get some pics in the morning, and give it a fresh go on the morrow emoticon

Ok, here's some pics.

(Excuse the dirt, hasn't been washed since going on dirt, then got drizzled on last night. FILTHY!)

Re: Windshields

Very clear photos. Thanks Drew. Did you winkle the clips up under the seal or did you actually pull seal away first?

My windscreen is being replaced on Saturday. The bloke said they only have after-market screens but they are exactly the same, right down to the pattern around the edge. I told him I thought the OEM screens seemed a bit touchy. "Glass is glass" says he.

When the damage occurred, there was the tiniest chip and an immediate 10cm crack. By the time I got home the crack was 15cm and it stayed that way all day yesterday (car wasn't moved). Overnight the crack has doubled in size. The windscreen bloke was surprised when I told him and that other people had experienced the same thing, although maybe not overnight, especially, as he remarked, because of the mild weather we've been having.

Re: It's official. I own an X-Trail!

I just wiggled them under the seal. They go under fairly easily, but they haven't moved since I put them on a few months back.

I'm dreading the day I get a crack in my windscreen. I had a truck fling a bit of gravel up the other day which hit it with a decent whack, but I couldn't find any damage.

Re: It's official ... I now hate ebay

Never, never, never had a problem before. Now, just about everything is going a--- up. TNT just tried to deliver the genuine Nissan side body moldings I'd ordered. The box was mangled and half hanging open so I immediate looked inside and only 1 of the 4 pieces and the instructions were in there. Very poorly packaged ... no tape around the box to stop it falling apart. I refused delivery. The delivery guy said he'd queried the condition of the box at the depot but had been told it was fine and everything was in there. I think he was embarrassed. He's going to go back and search the depot to see whether he can find the pieces.

Does anyone know exactly what should be in the box? I'm now worried about exactly what's missing and/or the moldings being damaged.

Re:

They are a stick on type of mouldings, apart from the 4 pieces which you found, there should also be template and instructions showing you the exact position where you would stick the moulding on the door. No screws or brackets would be required.

Re: It's official. I own an X-Trail!

I think the key with ebay is to be very careful who you buy from. Take the time to check the seller's feedback, especially the neutral and negative ones.

In all the years I've been using it, I've only really had 2 stuff-ups. One was something I ordered from the US for my Mum for christmas, which got lost in transit. It showed up 10 months later just in time for her birthday though!
The second was my bonnet protector. It came from a dealer so I thought it would be fine. I really should have checked the feedback for this particular seller. Multiple complaints of things packaged badly.
It got here in a mangled box with the bonnet protector sticking out of one end. Not a single bit of protection other than an undersized box. By some miracle, there wasn't a speck of damage on it, but I checked it over very thoroughly before accepting it.
