Re:
Could be the heat and leaving it under the sun without shade. I know mine had a small chip, left the car outside overnight with windows up I think and crack got longer even though it wasn't a warm night. After leaving the car in the full sun at a friend's place for a few hours with all windows up, made the crack even worse.

Re: Re:
I was driving home around 6pm on the freeway and heard it hit and crack. From the noise I expected a much larger chip. Several lanes, lots of cars doing 100km and who knows where exactly it flicked up from. I have seen several comments of what you're describing though, which is why I'm thinking the Nissan screens are a bit touchy. I shall discuss it with the windscreen bloke when I book it in tomorrow. Thanks for commenting.
On a side note, Edward is booked in for installation of a Hayman Reece towbar and the ECB Big Tube bullbar on 5 April.

Re: Murphy's Law
Not loving ebay so much now. They sent me these weathershields ... can anyone tell me how on earth I'm supposed to fit this onto that window when it extends not just past the door frame but well into the next window? Am I stuffing up somehow, should I be able to magically disappear all that extra overlap or are they not the right ones? Because the seller is saying it looks fine in the photo and that I just have to align the ends in first.

Re:
I doubt these are meant for the T31 Xtrail so contact the seller and sort it out with him directly.
Are you aligning the rear visors with the outer edge of the door itself? Not the window
Some of these weathershields are door specific, meaning there is a left and right in the rear visors.

Re: It's official. I own an X-Trail!
They look exactly the same as the ones I got on ebay for my T31. As Jalal said, make sure you line them up with the outer edges of the door. Not the inner edge where the windows are.

Re: Re:
Okay, I'm a dill but I see where I'm going wrong now. Thanks for the diagrams. Sorry, between the crack in the windshield (had a trip planned so that went out the window), the same seller stuffing up the cargo mat order and this, I'm a bit frazzled.
I think I've mentally overlaid a video I saw on some German-made weathershields, which actually just clip up into the window, with these which just stick onto the actual outside of the door. Also, they say to remove the seal which seemed to indicate the shield was fitted under it somehow, except that is just to fit the brackets? I'm not happy about pulling off a perfect looking seal either. I'm worried I'll stuff that up and/or scratch the paintwork with the brackets and set up rust in there.
Thanks guys.

Re:
There should no brackets with this type of weathershields, as they are only held in place by the 3M tape at the back of them and all you need to do is clean the area they are being stuck on properly.

Re: It's official. I own an X-Trail!
If they're the same as mine (which I'm 99% sure they are - from bestclickshop?) they have 3m tape which goes around the outside edge, plus brackets which clip under the rubber seal along the top of the window.
I can take some pics of them installed on mine tomorrow when there's some light
