Re:

Bash plates are good for places without sand too. Like other 4WD adventures with plenty of sticks and sharp little rocks that fly up into the wrong places.

I have run it (Bridgestone A/T 16" tyres) with 12psi in soft sand with no issues and no 4WD overheating. I wouldn't drop it to 8psi though.

What size tyres have you got Jalalski?

I'm looking at upgrading from the stock 215/65R16 Dueller HTs to 235/70R16 LT Dueller AT 697s as this is the smallest LT size I can upgrade to in that particular tyre. The 225/75R16 LTs are over 50mm from original OD and I think I'm pushing it already with the ones I want. I was considering putting the new tyres on new alloys, but I think I'll save the $160 a rim and invest in an exhaust upgrade :-)

Cheers,
Benjamin

Re: sand & clearance

All,

Also, when you recommend tyre pressures can you please add tyre size and type.

Some, like myself may have slightly different low tyre pressures depending on rim size, tyre size, wall thickness/ply rating etc won't they?

Cheers for the insight,
Ben

Re: sand & clearance

Haha thanks Jalal, I didn't realise that was the older model.

What do you run now?

Also, with all this talk about upgrades for beach driving, has anyone got some sort of catholic or rust proofing as an extra to their Exy in order to prevent rusting?

Just curious,
Ben

Re: sand & clearance

I strongly recommend that bash plates are removed and then the thorough fresh water wash as suggested. I was surprised with the amount of sand still trapped in nooks and crannies covered by the bash plates after I removed them after my first sand driving experience.

I have been on the beach many times since and no sign of damaging rust appearing. I always remove the plates even after bush track driving.
