Re:

Never.

N/A petrol engines are normally cheap and easy to service. My last v8 was under $200 for a normal service. The M3 also has 25,000km service intervals.

To get the diesel xtrail serviced up to 50,000km at the capped service price you are looking at $1,984. I can't imagine a non dealer M3 service being more than $1,000. Of course when something breaks or needs replacing it's a different story.

If it sounds like I'm trying to justify buying one, I am. Hahaha.

Re: Its time to say goodbye to the Xtrail

oil changes on the BM V8s are relatively easy with top mounted oil filter. Plug changes a little difficult on the M3 not so bad on the M5 (E39).

Said goodbye to the Xtrail on Tuesday - a poignant moment - reset the EGR light for the last time and handed over the keys.

Experience on the new Golf has been very good with a readout of 3l/100 at 100km/hr & start stop technology that works a dream on the manual. I think anyone who drives this vehicle will come away mightily impressed.

Re:

I know what you mean about the VW.
My wife has 2010 2.0 TDi and averages 1200kms per 55 litres (tank) with the air con climate control always in the on position.
Awesome car, I am a big fan of the Golf.
