Its time to say goodbye to the Xtrail
You can follow some of the work I have done on the Xtrail (diesel) trying to resolve EGR related issues.
I made the decision last week that enough is enough. I am sure with more money thrown at it I could resolve the EGR issue one way or the other (replace it or delete). However I think there may be turbo wastegate issues as well.
However I can no longer trust this vehicle not to throw an error particularly when I am somewhere far from home. The other half also agrees and so it is time to say goodbye to the Xtrail. I have taken this to Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Carnarvon, etc, used BP or Shell, always dealer serviced, so it is a pity in a way that the EGR design lends itself to my feeling that it is really not 'fit for purpose' to gunge up so badly after just 80,000kms.
I will be removing many of the accessories I fitted to the vehicle and offer them for sale shortly on the forum.
What will I get - not sure but the new COTY has me interested.

Re: Its time to say goodbye to the Xtrail
Hi John, sorry to see your jumping ship, but it is understandable due to where you live and where you travel.
One question though, did you ever give your exy a regular bootful, if you didn't it may explain the EGR issues.
I will willingly pay you what you paid for your JAOS strut bar, as they are no longer available.
I'd love to have one.
Just remember though the current model EXY's are being run out at crazy prices, I'd really try again, as I know you loved your EXY bar the EGR issues, maybe a new one might not have issues.
Have a great day, Augustus the X Trail

Re: Its time to say goodbye to the Xtrail
I used to regularly get it up past 3500 - perhaps the new ones are less trouble prone but I did everything by the book. I did not want to get to this point and it is quite disappointing in some respects. I always thought I would do my fourth Nuilarbor crossing in it - not to be.
There's a saying you never try the same trick twice. Applies to cars I reckon. Which is why I have had a Hillman, Triumph, Ford XC, XE, Holden HZ, Mitsubishi L200, Volvo 240, Isuzu Rodeo, Subaru Outback, VW Bora V6, Sangyong Rexton (capable but depreciated like a boat anchor), Xtrail, Santa Fe...in some I did 100,000, some 200,000 one 300,000 (HZ) and none of them ever gave me the issues I had with the Xtrail over the last year. (Yes that's a lot of driving). In fact I toured Australia in the XE and HZ and they didn't miss a beat
I have pm'd you re the strut bar.

John
Just as a point of correction John, the M9R diesel does not have a turbo wastegate. It is fitted with a variable geometry turbocharger that does not need a wastegate because the boost is controlled by varying the pitch of the vanes inside the turbo.

Re:
Hi John,
I can understand your frustration with the car and I have been in this situation when my T30 started playing-up just before I traded it in and got the T31. I loved that car and was really sad to see it go but it got to a stage where I was throwing money away on dealerships, mechanics and tuning places for them just to keep guessing what was wrong with it and I was the one who ended-up paying for their wrong guesses.
I knew the moment I trade it in and hand the keys to Nissan, they will fix the car and re-sell it and that is exactly what they have done when I checked with the new lady owner who said the car was running like a dream, so it was only a matter of them sucking money out of me for nothing!
Good luck to you with your new purchase and hopefully you will find something a bit more reliable although this now can't be guaranteed with any brand.

Thanks Jalal - That's why I am trading it in - I don't want to burden a private owner with the issues. I was even upfront with the salesperson and said there is an intermittment EGR issue and the response was along the lines of "not really concerned as the vehicle goes to wholesale and it becomes someone else's problem". That's why I am removing the accessories I fitted so that I can recoup some value.
You are right about reliabililty concerns with any brand.

Re:
Sorry to hear, mate. Almost did the same thing awhile back when I had issues with the 4wd system, but thankfully it eventually came good. Depending on the price, I'd definitely be interested in your bash plates?
