Re: X-Trail won't start - P1610 & P1612

Is there a fuse that relates to the NATS system? I was mainly just checking fuel pump, etc fuses yesterday and they were all good. Had a quick look at the fuse boxes and couldn't see one labelled NATS?

Re:

Not sure if it will be labelled as NATS in the fuse box, but there should definitel be one for the inbuilt immobiliser, so try searching for that.

EDIT: Another thing comes to mind is that your Fuel Management System has locked itself for some strange reason, so try removing the fuel pump fuses to have it re-set.

The two 'Fuel Pump' fuses from driver side fuse box located underneath the steering wheel. one is 10A (Red) and other is 15A (Blue). Then started the car.

If this doesn't work, try doing the quick ECU re-set (check the DIY section of the forum) and hope for the best.

No luck. Tried a combination of everything mentioned and it still won't start. Only thing I haven't done is checked the fuses that relate to the NATS system (couldn't find them).

I think it's time to send it to the dealer... emoticon

You have me thinking now that the fuel pump electrical connector (not the fuel hose connector) has come loose at the fuel pump.

Lift the rear seat and check the connection by unplugging it and replugging it back in.

Re:

Check fuse number 33 the 10A in the engine bay which is the NATS fuse.

Also, you may want to invest in a copy of the T30 Service Manual as it gives quite detailed troubleshooting steps for both of these fault codes, the end result of which is that the key identification unit could be faulty and may need to be replaced.

Yep, checked that one early in the piece. Unplugged them and plugged them back in (both sides).

Thanks for that, but I sent the car to the dealer yesterday.

I got one off ebay... it came from the UK and I think there might be some differences between the Aussie version and the UK version but I did find the info about the NATS system/key id unit. That's why I thought I'd send the car straight to the dealer and not to the local mechanic as it seems like that's where it would have had to go in the end.

Hopefully will hear back with a diagnosis from the dealer today.

No worries Phil, hopefully it gets sorted soon.

Keep us updated, as this is quite an interesting fault.

Just heard from Nissan - it's the key reader. $598 (installed) to fix. Yay emoticon

Mind you.... I had worried that it was going to be even more. Read some +$2K reapirs people were having to get (on other forums) when they had similar sounding problems....

Let me know if you want me to find out any more info from the dealer for future reference.

Re:

I was suspecting that would be the case when I mentioned the Key ID unit....I think yours is the first one I have ever come across to fail in the T30.

Maybe ask the dealer how many of these have failed in the past and any reason for the failure (apart from age)?

Re: X-Trail won't start - P1610 & P1612

Picked the car up from Nissan today. This was only the second time they had seen this problem in a T30. According to the invoice, the specific part was the "Control Unit-Immobiliser (M)" - N*28590C9901.

The only symptom that I may have had prior to the car not starting at all was that it didn't start first time every time. But it didn't really ever have any major problems starting. Just wouldn't kick over first time sometimes, but always started. Will keep an eye on this to see if it has changed now.

Oh well, at least it broke down at home, and not up the beach!
