Orange-Kinross State Forest

Had to go to Orange last couple of days ago for my daughters Rythmic Gym Comp, I had Friday afternoon free so went out and combined Geo-caching and some off road driving.
My plan was to go down Mile Rd which comes off Mitchell Highway, and go straight through to Icely Rd.
Right at the start there is a sign which reads "4x4's only impassable in wet", now this road was rough with plenty of half buried rocks, at one point there was no track at all just grass which made spotting rocks hard, bash plate came in handy.
I ended up coming to a point that I thought was just too risky to try and get through.
You can see the track on the right and a very deep rut filled with rocks on the left, the track slopes from right to left towards the rut meeting at the bottom

Further down,

Once down it looked ok

I think I could have made it down but had my doubts about getting back up if the way further on was blocked, so I thought it best to back track.

Once back on the highway I turned off and went down Emu Swamp Road looking for more Geo-caches, when I came across this in someones yard in the middle of no-where

Next two Geo-caches were in Kinross forest, the 1st was along a very steep power line road, the photos don't do it justice

I used decent control, which worked great, to crawl down and through more ruts, before getting to the top

One more stop to go, it was called the Big Dipper, and is popular amongst 4x4's as a good hill climbing challenge.

Again it seemed alot steeper in person than the photos, the one problem was a mound of hard dirt just after the start of the hill which meant getting a run up was near impossible as it would throw the front of the car up, low range would help with this one, I looked long and hard at this , but being by myself with not another soul around I gave it a miss, now there's one person on this forum that I know would probably make it up, who do you think it could be Todd?

A enjoyable afternoon out.

Looks like you had fun out there Pete. I may have to find an excuse to get out that way. As for that hill I know photos never capture the real situation so wouldn't want to say I would have had a go at it without being there in person. Would take a significant hill for me to not have a crack though emoticon
