posticon Re: Looking to buy Secondhand - what to check - what to avoid

 emoticon - probably good advice.

Thinking it might worth spending more for an T31.
Are there any drawbacks at all to the T31 over the T30?

Re: Looking to buy Secondhand - what to check - what to avoid

If your looking for a T31 in a manual there are no drawbacks, a little more space than the T30 so thats a positive. The early CVT transmissions had a few problems but over the last few years they have been resolved.

Thanks, i test drove a 2008 ST with the CVT on weekend and was pretty impressed.

From what year model do the CVT's tend to be more reliable?
From the reading I have done in the CVT threads its end of 2010?

Thanks Jalalski, Yes that's where I read up on the issues.

Now I just need to work out whether I should go with the ST, ST-L or Ti.
In my price range it seems a bit of a trade off between lower kms and less added options emoticon

Re: Looking to buy Secondhand - what to check - what to avoid

As an ex work mate and fellow xtrail owner once said to me before i purchsed my exy back in 2005, the more you spend, the more you lose. His advice was when spending more on higher priced models, you may not necessarily get the value back when re selling down the track.

On the other hand if you want to throw money at it then go for it.

Re:

Thanks for all the advice guys.

It has all paid off and I now own a 2008 manual Exy.
Really impressed with how it drives and keen to take it off road for more testing.
The kids love it, its got a few fancy features that our other car doesn't. They think it is some kind of spaceship!

Now - where was that DIY mods section...... emoticon

Re:

Hi, I am in the same boat here as I am looking for 2004-2006 T30 models to purchase. I have read thoroughly about the possible issues which can toast the engine (cat converter, butterfly screws, overheating due to blocked radiator). These issues do sound pretty daunting therefore anything I find I will check the service records thoroughly and have a full inspection done.

In regards to that would you advise getting one of the following inspections done or Nissan.

http://www.stateroads.com.au/get_quote.asp
from $225 (comprehensive inspections)

http://www.racq.com.au/motoring/cars/car_advice/vehicle_inspections
Light Vehicles RACQ member price: $253 minus $80 discount

Nissan???

Do you think RACQ or State Roads would be aware of the specific issues with the model that the dealer would?

I'm just not sure if a dealer would be any more thorough than one of these 3rd party companies even though they may know about obscure faults to look for?

Cheers
Jules
