Starting Issue (revised)

Hi Guys,

Apologies for the combination on the first post. I searched as well but nothing came up that is exactly similiar to my problem.

My Xtrail wont start. I just put in a brand new battery and that didnt help. When I go to start it all I hear is a single click then nothing. The windshield was installed incorrectly and water got in so I'm wondering if some of the electronics are fried. The other thing is that before this I had to give it gas to get it to start. Now that doesnt even work. It won't even attempt to turn over.

Any help would be great! Someone had suggest the cam sensor but anything other thoughts would be good to.

As you can imagine this is quite disheartening. I just got the vehicle.

Cheers!

Re:

No other thoughts mate, you just need to change the CAM abnd Crank sensors and you'll be fine. The fault is caused by a faulty Crank sensor but it is always good to change both sensors at the same time.

Re:

If you just brought the car through a car yard then you should get at least a 3 month warranty with it which should cover the sensors, if not they are an easy fix.

Change the sensors. My T30 did the exact same thing as what you describe. If that doesn't fix the problem start looking at your wiring and battery terminals.

Re:

I don't kow my X-trails yet but from what you've said about it not even turning over with a new battery I'd be looking at starter solenoid/relay issues or in your ignition wiring block.
If it was cranking over but simply failing to start I'd say sensors but from how I understand what you've said that's not the case.

SixStar,
You don't mention what model of Xtrail you have which makes it harder for us to determine which fuse and where to start looking for faults. Updating your information will help us to help you.
My thoughts are that it has something to do with the starter circuit because as you mention you hear a click then nothing it would seem your starter relay is operating but either no voltage is getting to the starter motor because of a loose connection/blown fuse or the starter motor is faulty.
If it was a sensor problem then I also would expect the engine to crank over but not fire.

2005 Nissan XTRAIL TI (as per the intro post) but having this information displayed in your signature would certainly be a better option.

makes sense to me Kev but my old T30 would alternate between doing this and cranking but not firing. I charged the sensors and all was good again.
