Moreton Island in the new T31 Diesel auto anyone?

Just wondering if anyone has been to Moreton Island in the new T31 Diesel Auto yet and how it performed?

Ive searched and read plenty of threads on the Petrol model but cant seem to find any on the Auto Diesel?

Cheers all

Hi Cooch,

Which thread are you talking about? You have hyperlinked '4WDriving Hints & Tips' page not a specific thread.

Going on from that, that was the first place I checked, second place was 'trip reports' and then used the search button, but still nothing specific to my question.

Has anybody been to Moreton Island in a Diesel Auto T31?

Kind regards

Mark

True but in that thread there are posts regarding driving on Fraser, Bribie and Beach driving with CVT.
I know for sure Todd has been on the sands but he has a manual diesel.

Re: Moreton Island in the new T31 Diesel auto anyone?

I have driven Stockton and several other beaches in my Manual diesel. Some of it has been with auto petrols. The only thing that holds either back in the really soft stuff is ground clearance. Keep up your momentum through soft sand and you should be fine.

I have never driven Moreton so not sure of how soft it is but if you are new to sand driving maybe have a practice run somewhere easy. Also go with another vehicle and take snatch straps, shackles etc. If it your first time on sand 90% chance you will get stuck at least once. Otherwise buy some Maxtrax or TRED tracks to give yourself a back up if you are by yourself.

Re:

Thanks guys,

Toddyh03 - Ive watched a few of your videos on the beach and looks good! (I also like the water crossing as Upper colo emoticon ) ! I have the diesel auto with the normal 6spd autobox. Was just wondering how I would go getting of the MiCat at Moreton?

Saying that I guess it just soft sand and with the right momentum and gear selection I should be ok. I have removed the hard plastic mud guards because they look like scoops for the sand as it sinks into the sand.

oh well my trip is in 2 weeks time! I will be going with about 15 other vehicles so plenty of help at hand if needed!

I will also be taking my camera and tripod so lots of pics and videos emoticon

Cheers guys

Speaking of scoops watch the departure angle. That rear bumper is a massive scoop.

Re:

I would probably just leave it in auto mode, I have the CVT and tried using manual selection but found that if I left it too low a gear the wheels would spin to much and then just dig holes causing me to get stuck.
I found letting the auto just do it's thing much easier and far more succsesful.

Re:

Thanks for the replies guys emoticon

Ive read heaps about driving on sand and actually have drove a little on the beach.

My main concern is if I am last off the MiCat? will I actually make it threw the soft stuff to the hard sand? (weary of all the other 4wd's cutting up the sand etc)

emoticon
