Re:

Thank you all.

Have cancelled the buy upon consultation with the mechanics.

There aren't any replacement/same series at this time with the dealer so I am hunting for one right now.

Will let yous know when I am lucky with a T31 and hopefully post some pics for my profile.

Thanks,
Lance

CVT Transmission oil changes.

Thought I would start posting in the correct thread with some information I have gleaned regarding CVT Transmission oil changes.

I have contacted 2 Nissan Service departments here on the Gold Coast about changing out the CVT fluid as part of the capped price 120,000kms service @ $555.10.

The service manual states clearly:

Page M-46 ALL VEHICLES
Item 9 -“Replace CVT fluid at 100,000km”

Page M-54 ALL VEHICLES
Item 7 -“Replace Hyper-CVT fluid at 120,000km”

The first dealer at Robina told me 'CVT Fluid is not a service item on your vehicle and is not replaced. The service book you have is a generic book that covers all Nissan models worldwide.
As you will see there are instructions under a number of headings including Diesel Engines, LPG Engines, 4WD and Commercial Vehicles which also do not apply to your vehicle.'

Hmmmm...

The second dealer at Southport told me 'The cvt oil counter will be checked as part of the service
The cvt oil is not replaced as a part of the service. Yes the vehicle is under the capped price service
The total of the service is $555.00'

He went on to further say 'We can replace the cvt oil if you like. The cost would be $450.00 using the NS-2 fluid gen Nissan fluid, and check through consult'

He confirmed this was for the replacement only not a flush.

Wow, I wonder what you pay for a full flush!

I am thinking I will get the replacement fluid done and get the 120,000 service done as soon as I can afford it.
Just a shame it's in the book as being a replacement item, but not covered by the capped price ;-)

I hope this helps out.

CVT Transmission oil changes.

Still trying to book this in!

The Dealer is trying to talk me out of changing the fluid and wants me to take it in for a diagnostic first.
He swears blind that changing the fluid is overkill and just not necessary and will make no difference to the longevity of the CVT.

I've just told him I would like it done for my own satisfaction ;-)

Re:

my car is the 09 nissan x trail t31 with nearly 160,000km on it with very poor service maintance first owner was minto police i have no idea who the 2nd owner is but the Genuine Nissan NS-2 CVT Fluid does not convince me that you only have to use the Genuine Nissan NS-2 CVT Fluid. im sure there is fluids out there that you can do a full flush with filter change and it will work the same if not better

Re: CVT Transmission oil change?

G'day,
My cars now due for its 100,000 k service. Its had an easy life with some off road trips. Should I change the CVT fluid now, or wait for the 120,000 k mark? I note in the service book there is no mention of the CVT filter change. Do we change the filter at the same time that we change the oil, or is it a non serviceable part?

Re: CVT Transmission oil change?

Went to Nissan spares today and was told I can use NS-2 CVT Fluid at $127.00 x 2, 4 litre tins or I can use NS-3 CVT Fluid at $70.00 x 2, 4 litre tins. He did say that seeing that NS-2 is currently in my Gearbox, that I should flush the NS-2 completely out with NS-3 before refilling with NS-3. I think it would take at least 4 litres to flush it all out, so is it worth using the NS-3? I'm not sure. Is 8 litres enough to refill the Gearbox? Thanks.

Re: CVT Transmission oil change?

Went to Nissan and spoke to a mechanic there, and he said its ok to use the new NS-3 in the T31 CVT . Obviously the converter can't be completely drained so rather than flush the tranny, disconnect the cooler and let it drain, then reconnect it. Sounds good to me, a saving of $114.00. emoticon

Drained 5.5 Litres of fluid, and refilled with around 6.5 Litres.

Re:

Is that still a litre of old fluid sitting in your tranny though? 20% or so old plus 80% or so of new? I'd have thought the idea of a flush would be to get rid of all the crap...?

Re: CVT Transmission oil change?

When you read through some of these posts, you'll find that the life of this fluid is a lot longer than 100,000 ks. And I know the way my gearbox has been treated, its had an easy life so far. The oil coming out was clean, no crap in the drain tin, so I decided it wasn't necessary.
