CVT Transmission oil change?

Hi. I own a Dec 2012 build Xtrail 2.5 ltr petrol with CTV transmission, car now has done 15,800 trouble free klm's.
I asked my Nissan service manager last week when picking up my car after having an early 20,000 service, when does the CVT transmission oil get changed. He replied, Never! We never change it I was so surprised I had nothing to say in return. Is this correct, they never change the transmission oil?

I thought that the oil gets changed at the 100 000klm service, there is even a label under the bonnet stating the exact type of Nissan oil that needs to be used.

Re:

Peter is correct.

The Genuine Nissan CVT transmission fluid was jointly developed by Nissan and Jatco (the company that manufactures the CVT Transmission for Nissan) and it is specifically made to last 100,000kms evenm in severe conditions.

It is quite pricey to replace and when the time comes to repalce it, nothing else should be used except the Genuine Nissan NS-2 CVT Fluid.

I think I read in the service manual that 4WD X-Trails require 8.6LT and 2WD require 7.5LT of the CVT fluid.

The Nissan Part Number for the CVT Fluid is: 999MP-NS200P

Also if you take it to a Nissan Dealer for servicing, they check the condition of the CVT Fluid.
They will only change it when it shows signs of deterioration.
My Dealer said the scheduled change is around 120,000kms which concurs with Jalaski's comment.

Re: CVT Transmission oil change?

Hi,

Just made payments for a used T31 Diesel Auto (M9R), 2008 model and as part of the normal routine, the service guys did all their normal service and replace the OIL with the normal Oil NOT the CVT oil as prescribed in the manual.

They took it for test drive before releasing the vehicle and noticed that the car was not picking up when going up hill, kind of losing power and this is the hold up I have right now because they thought need to run it via the diagnostic machine to find the lack of power issue during climb.

They also identify the wrong oil (non CVT Oil as prescribed by Nissan Manual) and are working on it.

Should I be very worried with this unfortunate mistake by the service guys?..I am just thinking it might affect the engine..are any one experienced this mishap before and what are the concerns?

I can always cancel this buy as I have yet to sign papers and get the keys.

Thank you..

Lance

Re:

Given the poor history of the Series 1 T31 models which had many CVT problems, I reckon you should be worried indeed and stay clear from this vehicle. That would be my decision had it been me.

The diesel auto is not a CVT auto. Not that this changes the advice. Walk away from this vehicle for sure.

Thats what I thought too Todd when in I was contact with a European diesel owner, he was convinced his diesel was a CVT,.
Not knowing where Lance is from he could be right.

Ok just read another thread and found out that Lance is in Port Moresby-PNG, so have to assume their diesel version is same as ours.
