Plans have been settled on and it looks like it is going to be a pretty decent bash. This in turn takes me from tentative to doubtful for this Sunday. Was looking forward to getting the exy out for a decent sand run but looks like I'll b waiting a bit longer. Hope it is a great day tho. nondisclosed_email@example.com (mickyd t31)Wed, 19 Jun 2013 22:21:22 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075087,from=rss#post2075087https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075087,from=rss#post2075087Yes Mark. Like Ian said... normal road tyres are fine for sand. I'm on normal H/T's and have a compressor too. I have a snatch strap but should not be needed. I was on the same beach a few months ago and the entry/exit is quite short. With the recent rain it won't be very fluffy either. nondisclosed_email@example.com (mmcdon23)Tue, 18 Jun 2013 22:13:40 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075086,from=rss#post2075086https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075086,from=rss#post2075086Yeah mate, in fact road tyres usually better than aggressive off-road tyres for sand driving. The only real downfall is the lack of sidewall height on the stock wheel/tyres. But to answer your tyre question; yes. Recovery equipment will depend on who attends, etc.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Ian Ewin)Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:35:57 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075085,from=rss#post2075085https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075085,from=rss#post2075085Sounds great. Newbie question (it's our first time off road)...are the standard tyres OK for beach driving? I have a tyre pump in the boot, so letting the tyres down isn't a problem. Does any one have recovery equipment? nondisclosed_email@example.com (mfeodoroff)Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:22:32 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075080,from=rss#post2075080https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2075080,from=rss#post2075080Good news John. Melinda & myself will be there on Sunday, we will meet you at the caravan park for coffee. Unfortunately Mick & Ellen cant make it, Mick has to work. He said by 10am Sun, he will be half way to Sydney, driving his semi; I told him by abut 11.00, we should be half way to Evans Head. I wont repeat what he told me. So we wont have the Navara there, to drag along the beach. See you there.nondisclosed_email@example.com (wanderer69)Tue, 18 Jun 2013 16:41:37 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2074717,from=rss#post2074717https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2074717,from=rss#post2074717Got the dogs booked into the kennel and making a loooonnngggg weekend of it (QLD school holidays start that weekend) nondisclosed_email@example.com (mfeodoroff)Mon, 10 Jun 2013 12:05:36 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2074646,from=rss#post2074646https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2074646,from=rss#post2074646Hey All, Only 2 weeks away. Getting through lots of crappy weather right now so should be great by then. Good news John. Hoping you all can make it. I'm thinking we can meet at the reception/cafe (coffee!!) at Ballina Beach Villiage on South Ballina Beach road. Its just before the beach access road. Meet around 10am. Sound ok? So fare we have... Can you pencil Melinda & Myself in for that day. Depending on Melinda's work roster, as she had to change jobs. But will confirm, closer to the date. Also a mate of mine Mick, might be along on the day as well in his Navara. Him & his wife, Ellen came to one of Scott & Wendys weekends away. This will depend on his work roster as well. If anyone wants any recovery practice, in their Exy's; the Navara should be there to practice on. (Don't tell Mick I said that.)nondisclosed_email@example.com (wanderer69)Sun, 02 Jun 2013 15:38:26 +0000 Re:https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2074213,from=rss#post2074213https://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/p2074213,from=rss#post2074213I reckon my kids will want lunch at the kiosk at Evans...an ice cream at the very least :-) I think we're more definite now as there's a lantern parade in Lismore on the Saturday that my wife wants to see. I figure we will be off the beach by 2 or 3pm at the latest. We can get off at either end if needed. I'm thinking we do the run down to Evans Head first and check it all out. Then head back towards Ballina and stop somewhere for lunch. Only 4 weeks away now. The tides on Sunday 23 June are perfect for a 10am meetup, a casual drive down the beach, stop for some lunch somewhere and a play in the soft stuff if your game! We should be able to go all the way to Evans Head and back. I was on the same beach at Easter. Here is a partial GPS recording of that drive ... Google Maps Its a very popular 4wd beach with lots of vehicles and people fishing, bbq'ing etc but they quickly thin out the further you go. The beach does NOT require a permit. There are two caravan parks (cabins and camping) very close to the beach access. One is dog friendly. They would be a good option if you want to make a weekend of it. From Ballina, you go across the ferry ($4.60 per car) or go 20 mins further down the highway to Wardell and come back up the ocean side of the river. *** UPDATE *** Meeting at the reception/cafe (coffee!!) at Ballina Beach Villiage on South Ballina Beach road. Its just before the beach access road. Park outside on the roadside and its a short walk in to the cafe. Meet around 10am. Weather forecast is looking ok at the moment. So fare we have...
