Re: Central Australia

Ok so plans have changed very slightly. Still leaving on 10 August but now I will have to spend the first night babysitting around Broke/Pokolbin, NSW. Will head north-west towards Bourke on the morning of 11 August. Hope this doesn't create problems for anyone. If it does let me know and I may just have to do a massive drive on the 11th to catch up.

Re: Communications

Can I ask if you are taking anything special in the way of communication devices apart from UHF?
Like a Spotto or PLB?

Re: Central Australia

Yep Gail taking a PLB. No Sat phone or HF radio but that should be ok for emergency use.

Re:

When I did the solo drive for a month I took a sat phone that I had hired for the 4 weeks. It was free to receive calls and a fairly nice rate to call out on.

I just didn't tell people back here that it was free for me to receive calls on. They just had to wait for me to get into mobile range :P

Re: Weather

Hi Guys,
Hope everything goes smoothly for you all...my Darling River Run was a washout-literally.
All unsealed roads closed emoticon

But at least have a clear plan for "next" time.
Will be looking closely at your trip report for pointers.

Re: Central Australia

Thanks Gail. That's a shame about your trip. Hopefully next attempt is more successful.
