Re:

Diff protection should go hand-in-hand with what I just posted in my members ride thread, Todd. The cross member had not come to my attention however, I will need to check that out when I get home. I'm hoping it's just a lateral support? Maybe this should be moved to another thread after all, haha. Would the powers that be, be so kind as to move the relevant posts for us? Is that possible?

Re: T31 "body lift"

One thing puzzles me Ian.

If you are intending to lower the front diff to keep the drivetrain intact as it is, wouldn't that also mean lowering the whole engine as the front diff is part of the transaxle which is bolted to the engine ? This obvioulsy means major modifications to the engine bay and mounts.

The other option is to keep the engine where it is and just lowering the rest of the drivetrain...sounds simple enough but as the front wheels are connected directly to the transaxle then longer driveshafts will be needed and there will be an increase in CV angles which are already stretched just by the normal spring lift. Also the tailshaft might require lengthening though the existing universal joints should take-up the change in angles between the transfer case output and the rear drive.

You could always get a donor chassis and put the X Trail body on it.

Re: T31 "body lift"

It's a T30 I've seen before. Does look good though. I reckon Kev has picked up on something there Ian. Your best short for getting what you want/need is probably gonna be from Japan.

Re:

Ok, so progress for this hasn't been exactly speedy. However, after lengthy poking and prodding, I've decided to initially just start with lifting the rear end, partly because it'll be much easier, but also because it will serve as a bit of practice before I dive into tackling the more complicated front end. I've been researching and talking with an engineer, and it has finally reached the point where I just need to get the body-blocks manufactured. I'm yet to find a place that will do this for me (purely due to my lack of available time during business hours), but I'm not expecting it to be too difficult, after all it's just cutting steel to size + some quality welding. Hopefully I'll have some photos up soon, to display where the blocks will be installed and of the blocks themselves. If you've any thoughts or concerns, fire away!

I HAVE SCOURED THE NET FOR MONTHS AND NEVER COME ACROSS THAT!! Bigwillie, mate, where did you come across that?! Judging by the year/model xtrail pictured, I'd say that is definitely a new/recent picture.
