Roof Rack Measurements (All Brands)

Hi All,

I will be buying roof racks soon, and I am trying to decide what to get. I have Rola on my previous vehicle, which means my Snowboard racks are Rola.

I thought it may be worth having a thread for people to share their Roof Rack Measurements of the different brands, and what brand accesories are interchangeable. I also need to know the distance between the racks mounted, so I can work out if my snowboard will fit (I have a wide stance and am worried I won't be able to mount my snowboard on the racks).

So I have 2 questions;

1) Is anyone willing to measure their roof racks in the format of;

Brand/Model:
Total Width: (That is the whole width of the rack)
Distance past roof rails: (That is, if the rack is wider than the roof fails, how far does it extend past?)
Inside Measurement: (That is, front rack to back rack, measured from the inside of the racks)
Outside Measurement: (That is, front rack to back rack, measured from the outside of the racks)

2) It appears to me, that Rhino Aero bars are the same shape as Rola Sports Rack. Can anyone confirm the accesories are interchangeable?

Thanks emoticon

Re:

Any bars of this style
Image
are going to have identical dimensions as the distance between the roff rails is fixed.

The following measurements are for T31, but a T30 should be similar bar length is identical for both model

Brand/Model:Rhino Rack
Total Width:The standard bar width is 1250mm
Distance past roof rails:130mm
Inside Measurement: As the mounts on the X-Trail are fixed the centre to centre distance will not change. The inside measurement is dependant on the width of the bar. (750mm centres)
Outside Measurement: As the mounts on the X-Trail are fixed the centre to centre distance will not change. The outside measurement is dependant on the width of the bar. (750mm centres)

Brand/Model:Rola
Total Width:The standard bar width is 1250mm
Distance past roof rails:130mm
Inside Measurement: As the mounts on the X-Trail are fixed the centre to centre distance will not change. The inside measurement is dependant on the width of the bar. (750mm centres)
Outside Measurement: As the mounts on the X-Trail are fixed the centre to centre distance will not change. The outside measurement is dependant on the width of the bar. (750mm centres)

Brand/Model:Whispbar
Total Width:The standard bar width is 1190mm
Distance past roof rails:100mm
Inside Measurement: As the mounts on the X-Trail are fixed the centre to centre distance will not change. The inside measurement is dependant on the width of the bar. (750mm centres)
Outside Measurement: As the mounts on the X-Trail are fixed the centre to centre distance will not change. The outside measurement is dependant on the width of the bar. (750mm centres)
Whilst the profile of the Rhino Aero and Rola Sports bars are similar it is not identical

Re:

Found a shop that held Rhino and Rola gear and found the following information.

The ROLA snow board racks dont fit rhino. Rhino sports looke the same, but up close, they are fatter.

ROLA changed their track design, but kept the same outside dimensions. The old style track has a smaller track, the new one is larger. Due to this change, the old feet, won't fit the new bars and vice versa. This is an issue for me, as I had planned to cut down my old bars and just by new feet - but I can't, I have to buy the whole lot. (Strangley, my 1994 vitara racks are wider than the Xtrail)

He did say that Rhino tend to have more 3rd party accesories than ROLA due to their standard design, where ROLA is taking the Apple approach "my way or the highway". THat said though, the track was changed to allow a greater range of accesories.

Cost was $320 for ROLA racks and mounts, or $350 for Rhino racks and mounts. Since I have ROLA snowboard rack, I guess I'll go ROLA.

I still need to get my snowboard out to find out if it will be mountable on the Xtrail though emoticon
